Town Redesign

Oh man, that is the ultimate question. Has anyone seen Mel lately? Someone light the mel-signal.
  • gosh, you guys all have really cool towns. redesigning my town always takes me hours. it's so tiring, but it's fun as well. I personally am not into expanding because it'd be difficult to find my characters then. I now only have a line of road LOL and I don't really like it that way but it's for efficiency. I'd like to redesign my town again probably next month or the next one. will do better planning and collect enough money to get more land expansion.

I always move my buildings out of the way and then just store the decorations. Otherwise, you never know, you could accidentally sell one. I also work on one piece at a time. Maybe divide it up by neighborhoods. You also might want to figure out where your landing zone is and put a message in hedges or fences that says under construction or something. Some of my neighbors have done that before, so we know what's happening. One neighbor put EVERYTHING but the Simpson house in storage. I thought his Springfield had been reset at first. It was and still is an amazing town. Then I realized he was redesigning it.

Identifying landing zone - good tip. Because it is the first thing people will see you may want to personalize it or ensure what you most like to be clicked is there.

A temporary under instruction message, also a very good tip.

That is a great tip, but just remember that unless you have all the land/water, your landing zone is going to change. I made this mistake and now have the Church as my landing zone. My town is to massive for a full redesign, but I'd like to eventually get my Town Hall or username in my landing zone.

I would NOT put any limited time or premium buildings in your inventory. Odds are there won't be a problem, but a number of people have posted about putting limited/premiums in their inventory and then they disappear, having to either repurchase them or lost them forever. Just move them off to the side.

I think trying to redesign an entire town is overwhelming. I try to focus on one area at a time and then build off of and work from there

Trust me, redesigning/rearranging your town is a nightmare...overwhelming is car too generous a term. I did it several months ago, when the rumors of Squidport first started and I realized I'd oriented my town the wrong way (I'm trying to recreate the Springfield from the show as best as I can).

I have all the buildings, premiums, and LT items, so it was a chore (mainly because of all the decorations, fences, etc). I didn't store anything in inventory, but bought a bunch of land squares and moved most buildings bunched in a corner, leaving most of the fences and decorations where they were temporarily to help as a reminder of how I had everything laid out. Then I began the slow process of re-placing the buildings in their new spots, slowly moving all the fences, trees, flowers, decorations, etc around those buildings, then deleting and re-placing the roads, river, concrete, grass, etc. It literally took a good 3-5 hours spread over a few days.

It was that experience that made me wish they'd add a feature where you could highlight a block or multiple blocks of land at a time and be able to move/twist that entire piece, instead of everything one by one. It'd save so much time and effort for the players when redesigning, should be relatively easy to code for the programmers, and probably even reduce some of the lag on the servers (since people redesigning their towns wouldn't have to spend as much time on the game to achieve what they want). Then you could still select individual items to move and place when needed.

But I think in many redesign cases, people just want to move a certain building or buildings and their surroundings, and that would make it much easier.
  • Thanks everyone I went with moving everything to the corner and did it that way it took a while but my town looks great only problem now is I need more land now I hope the wolfcastle update comes with a land expansion or a lot nice houses will have to be sold and Im not even a house farmer anyone else have this land issue with redesigning or just building the town
