I'm not positive, but I think Homer has to be free. I don't have mine yet and he's on a mission. My husband's Homer was free and he received his.
I hope that isn't the case as they are requiring him to be on 24 hour tasks. I also have not seen the dumbbell yet, and homer is busy listening to the gypsy.
