I don't think you are right on this one. It is true that it says that we should give presents to our neighbours to achieve the community goals, but the presents help towards the goals by giving gift cards to the ones who receive them + open them.

Re the community prizes - the first one available (Totem Pole) doesn't look very Christmassy to me. In fact, isn't it the Totem Pole that's been in the files since the Kamp Krusty update??

It clearly says the counter goes up for every gift bag left in a friends town.. not gift cards.. EA will probably have to revise this, or start giving large packs of gift bags to hand out daily.. but the fact it requires people to visit might be the problem.. some people probably will just sit there and get everything without needing to visit people.

It says to add and to contribute with bags. Both descriptions don't say anything about for every gift bag you get one unit for the counter. When you add and contribute to something there must be already be something there to do so...

Yep, they just stuck a load of snow on the original totem pole! But I too am looking forward to getting it, it'll be a nice addition to my Kamp Krusty area, especially since we got the camp fire and the fishing hole as well.

Even if the counter is "real" and not rigged... if the rate is slower than EA expects and it looks like we will miss some of the community prizes all they have to do is increase the drop rate of gift bags and then it will start going up quicker. So while it is definitely going slow now... I am sure it will pick up speed and the devs will tweek things so that we get the community prizes when they want us to (either through rigging the counter or playing with the bag drop rate)

according to tstotopix there are 5 parts of the event we are in first.
so probably something could come up in next parts? On xmas day or eve we will get the grumple so...

We will but for 120 donuts

I think the dev's may have increased the number of gift bags being released. I'm getting one in every other or every third present now. Maybe they are increasing the number to up the community total faster.
