Ex-house farmer myself, but not to the extent I've seen some house farms - I actually have a friend who's entire town is white houses apart for one corner where he's crammed every single building. I'm not even joking. The guy must be swimming in money, but his town is just horrible.
Personally I feel as though house farms are OK as long as they don't get to the extent that they're a huge eye-sore. Some house farms can even be designed in such a way that they look like neighbourhoods instead, which I think is quite stylish in a way.
Currently I think I only have about 15 blue houses, plus quite a few Kwik-e-Marts+Gulp N' Blows (because I'm a perfectionist and not having a 5* rating was pretty much killing me). Once I'm sat on a comfortable amount of money, I plan on removing my blue houses entirely and doing my best to just blend Kwik-e-Marts and Gulp N' Blows around my town, so I can retain my 5* without having massive clumps of buildings.
I do agree that some house-farms can take it a little too far, though. When half your town is taken up by houses, it looks a little obscene.
I think the people here saying that its a bad thing need to understand that for newer players, house farming is one of the only ways they can get the XP and money to catch up to the point that us level 37s are currently at. Some of the buildings are so expensive, and a lot of people don't have hours and hours spare in their days to constantly play TSTO to earn money that way - so for many people who want to hit max level and have a "complete" Springfield so to speak, house farming is one of the only viable ways to actually catch up effectively. Its different for those who have been playing this game since release.
Just try to consider that before slating people for doing house farming on the side.
