Someone claimed on another site (not sure if I can mention which site) that they can still purchase tickets. Whether it's legit or not us beyond me, they may have not updated at that point.
Purchasing tickets is done by donuts...exchanging them for in-game money is another thing entirely.
The OP was talking about what OP has posted here, the one who claimed he can still purchase may have confused it with what you just said. I can't see how 1 person could purchase tickets with cash if that option was taken out.
