I find it helps to mark the buildings where she can be with something that's easily spotted. I'm using both Rainbow Trees and Hail Ants signs in 2 of my games (the third one is so far behind the others I can't afford to buy anything and it has no Launch Pad to get free Hail Ant signs). Unfortunately neither worked very well when we had snow - the white signs were almost invisible and the trees lost all their leaves.
Having a house farm can also help. In my 1 and 2 games Maggie is almost always on a Blue House, and the more White Houses I get in my 3rd game the more likely I am to find her on one of those.
I mark the buildings where Maggie could be with Halloween balloons. I have a whole bunch in storage from a couple of Halloweens ago. Marking the buildings helps a lot.
