Why are Hearts Limited per day?
Probably to avoid "friends laundering", i.e. when you visit 100 friends, then delete them, then add 100 new friends. Rinse and repeat.

It's possible they did this so people wouldn't rush through this event & then complain about being bored & having nothing to do.
