First off, you don't need any hacking skills to pull of a DDoS attack. You can "rent" a botnet for like $100 in places I won't mention here to avoid getting kicked from the forum. Any disgruntled idiot can do that.
The odds of one of those 29k+ users being one said idiot is pretty high. People have done DDoS attacks for fun for Pete's sake!
There are ways sites can defend themselves from this, but chances are, if they're using a small private server or a basic web hosting company, they will most likely not have those systems in place.- Malicious editing has been seen on one of the wikis. I noticed it then it is fixed, but it's in the edit history if you're curious. So, people like that exist and would DDOS. I believe it.
