I imagine that most people play at certain times of their day and would love to be able to visit their friends in say a four hour window. I prefer to visit my friends at a certain time of the day and occasionally will have to skip a day to allow the cooldown to reset to my time schedule.
So my suggestion is to have the visit friends on a 20 hour cooldown.
Or they could have it automatically reset at midnight in whatever timezone EA is located. That way you have the whole day to visit when you please, but are still only limited to visiting each neighbor once during a 24 hour time period.
