This is actually a great question. I wish I had been keeping track of how many plots I've purchased and at which costs. Has anyone calculated how large the grid of a "maximized" Springfield is? (Assuming you there is a limit to land purchases)
I already know that each plot of land is 16x16 units each. I've purchased 11 land plots on the north side (alongside the mountains), and 6 alongside the west river (well, not alongside the river, because we can't buy that land (yet?)). I can see buyable land to the south and to the east, which I assume means that my grid of approaching 66 plots can at least be expanded to 84 plots. (I calculated how many plots I had purchased by by placing pavement, which is 4 x 4 units, alongside the boundaries, as a sort of measuring tape.
I thought the Other Springfield would be a good guide to town size, but I think we can make our towns much bigger than it: O.S.'s north-south length seems to be about 6-7 plots to me.
