Quality of Life Improvements Needed for UFC 6: A Gamer’s Wishlist📝
I wanted to start a discussion on how EA can take their next MMA game UFC 6 to the next level with some much-needed quality-of-life improvements. While UFC 5 has been a step forward in many ways, there are still areas where the experience can feel clunky or outdated. Here’s my breakdown of what I believe could elevate the game:
1. Ranked Menu Improvements
• Weight Class Selection in Ranked: Players should be able to choose the weight class they want to fight in rather than being forced into random ones. This would allow people to specialize in their favorite divisions and avoid mismatches with fighters they aren’t comfortable using.
2. Back to Number Stats and Grades
The star rating system is oversimplified. By the time everyone is rated 4.5 or 5 stars, the ratings become meaningless.
• Solution: Bring back detailed number stats and grades for key attributes like striking, grappling, stamina, and chin. This gives players a better sense of each fighter’s strengths and weaknesses, creating more variety in gameplay.
3. Bring Back Skill Games
One of my missed features from older titles is the skill games that helped players improve and understand mechanics.
• Why It’s Needed: Tutorials are helpful, but skill games allow players to practice striking, grappling, transitions, and submissions in a fun, low-pressure environment.
• How It Could Be Done: EA could include minigames for key aspects of the game, such as timing counters, working on combos, or defending takedowns. These could also double as a training mode for Career Mode.
4. Fighter Authenticity
One of the biggest immersion breakers is seeing fighters with generic stances or animations.
• Signature Fight Stances & Moves: EA should mocap real fighters to replicate their unique stances, movement, and techniques. Think Conor McGregor’s sideways karate stance or Tony Ferguson’s unconventional hand positioning.
• Improved Visual Fidelity: Fighters should feel more distinct in their presentation, from their walkouts to how they stand in the octagon.
5. Penalties for Quitting Matches
Leaving mid-match in online play is a huge frustration for players. There needs to be:
• A leaving match penalty that deters rage quitting. Whether it’s a ranked score deduction or temporary matchmaking lockout, it would make online fights more consistent.
6. Online Lag Fixes
Lag is a killer in any competitive game, and it’s no different in UFC. Fighting games require precision, and dealing with input delay sometimes ruins the fun.
• Improved Netcode: EA should prioritize a more robust netcode to reduce lag during high-ping matches.
• Ping Filtering: Automatic ping threshold in matchmaking to avoid opponents with poor/incompatible connections.
7. Fighter Movement and Footwork Tweaks
Fighter movement still feels floaty at times, with some players shuffling around the ring unrealistically fast.
• Heavier Fighter Feel: Fighters should feel like they have weight to their movements, with planted feet and realistic shuffles.
8. Referee Face-Offs for Main Events
A small touch, but one that could add immersion: Referees doing pre-fight face-offs for main events. It would add that extra layer of authenticity, especially in rivalries or title bouts.
These are just a few areas where EA could make UFC 6 the definitive MMA game. What are your thoughts? Any other QoL improvements you’d like to see?
