Bring back some animations and mechanics from ufc 3

You say there is an update for bobbing heading for bottom headmovent. This problem has been at the core of the game since ufc 4. Its a suggestion that i think would add more depth to the ground and encourage a more skillful play while simultaneously removing this problem. Bring back armtraps for the bottom instead of this automatic stuff. Like headmovent can still be included but used as a last resort. Any grappler and ai assistaant would tell you posting arms to block hooks is foolish as it sets you up for armbars and sway is nonexistent when top has control of your hips. Arm traps not only encourage more skillful matches but more immersive play. Youre more likely to frame and trap and get off your back, then to stay on bottom and flick left and right using gnp momentum to reverse. Thats literally like fooling with a demon core. My Armtraping idea leads to  an transition in the armtrap animation that either bottom recovers gaurd or top regains posture. If top recovers and has massive stamina disadvantage from exerting himself. Then bottom can be able to use the headmovent or posting to set up a sweep. Automatic headmovent sweeps remove skill and simplies it for casual arcadey play.

  • Love the idea! I can’t even explain how frustrating it is to drop someone for the 8th time and jump on their back for my first actual try at a TKO finish even though the opponent shouldn’t even still be in the fight, just for them to sweep to side control with half their brain still functioning it breaks the whole flow and pace of the fight. On top of being completely unrealistic unless you’re fighting like Hendo or Frankie Edgar. I know a soon update will focus on not having to drop guys so much to get the finish, but even still this needs to be touched on. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS!

  • Why arm trapping is more realistic

    In actual ground-and-pound (especially mount or side control), the top person is throwing continuous punches. Simply reaching or posting with your own arm only tries to intercept one shot. Against a committed attacker it fails quickly—they just keep swinging, and your extended arm becomes a perfect target for submissions. This is why coaches constantly warn against long frames or posts from bottom when strikes are involved.

    Arm trapping (overhooking, underhooking, two-on-one, or pinning their arm to their body/your body) is the go-to realistic response because it is what trained fighters actually do under pressure. It is a core part of mount escapes (classic “trap and roll”), closed-guard defense against punches, and general bottom survival in MMA.

    Why arm trapping is more ideal

    Neutralizes the threat directly: If you control one (or both) of their arms, they cannot throw free, powerful punches. Distance and posture control further limit what they can do.

    Preserves your structure: Your elbows stay close to your body (“T-Rex arms”). You avoid the exact isolation that leads to armbars, Americanas, or other joint locks.

    Creates offense from defense: Trapping an arm + a leg on the same side is the foundation of the trap-and-roll escape from mount. It also sets up sweeps, transitions to guard, or your own submissions.

    Works under real pressure: You can do it while covering your head with the free arm or using short frames. It scales better against someone who is actively trying to hurt you than a pure post does.

    Energy efficient: Once the arm is trapped and their posture is broken, you spend less energy just surviving and more energy improving position.

    Bottom line: Posting is a reactive, high-risk band-aid that often makes the situation worse. Arm trapping is proactive control that removes the punching threat, protects your limbs, and opens paths to escape or reverse the position. That is why it is the preferred, more realistic approach in both self-defense and MMA contexts when you are stuck on the bottom under ground and pound.

    High likelihood against anyone with solid grappling knowledge (BJJ, MMA, etc.), moderate against pure strikers, and a classic high-percentage setup overall.

    In a ground-and-pound (GNP) scenario—especially from mount or high mount—trying to post (plant your hand on the mat or against the opponent) or fully extend an arm to block/stop a hook creates an isolated, extended arm that the top person can easily attack with an armbar.

    Why this happens so readily

    Your natural defensive reaction to punches is to push on their chest/hips, frame, or reach up to block. This takes your elbow away from your body and often extends the arm.

    From mount, the top person simply overhooks or controls that arm, climbs to high/S-mount if needed, steps a leg over your head, and sits back into the armbar. The punches themselves are the bait that forces the exposure.

    BJJ/MMA teaching emphasizes keeping “T-Rex arms” (elbows glued to your ribs) precisely to deny these isolations. Extended or posted arms are repeatedly called out as the primary entry for mount armbars.

    Even if the top person is mainly striking, a grab on the extended arm can lead to an armbar if they know the mechanics—or at least put you in a worse position while they continue pounding.

    Factors that raise or lower the risk

    High risk: Opponent has any real BJJ/MMA training, is in full mount, or is deliberately mixing strikes with submission threats. This is one of the most common and high-percentage ways armbars are set up in MMA when GNP is happening.
