Penalized for NOTHING
Online Issues – White Screen Crash & Ranked Penalties
The white screen crash is still one of the biggest problems affecting online play. I’ve had matches load into either a completely white screen or an empty octagon, forcing me to close the game. The worst part is that the game then treats it as if I quit and gives me a ranked loss and matchmaking penalty.
This has been happening for long enough that it really needs to be a top priority. Players shouldn’t be punished for crashes and bugs they have no control over.
On top of that, the current ranked penalty system feels completely unfair. Recently I got disconnected from a match and received a matchmaking cooldown even though I didn’t quit. My internet connection was stable the entire time. As far as I can tell, either the server had an issue or something happened on the other player’s end, but somehow I was the one who got penalized.
That’s a major problem in a competitive mode. People put a lot of time into climbing the rankings, and it feels awful when progress is lost because the system can’t accurately tell the difference between an intentional quit and a game crash, server issue, or disconnect outside the player’s control.
More than anything, this hurts trust in ranked play. If players feel like they can be punished at random for technical issues, they’re going to stop taking the mode seriously or stop playing altogether.
I really think the team needs to focus on improving crash stability and fixing how disconnects are handled. Players who stay connected and aren’t responsible for the issue shouldn’t be receiving losses, cooldowns, or penalties because of problems with the game or servers.
