Lingering Problems
So these forums have changed a TON since I was last here, and I can't find my old threads. That being the case, I am going to try and re-write/update what I can regarding the issues that are still present within this game. Apologies in advance for how lengthy this will end up being.
Apparel Issues
While it's nice to see that we can now select trunk colors pre-fight, this only appears to apply to members of the official roster, not created fighters (CAFs). At the present moment, CAFs are still limited to black and white trunk color options when wearing the official UFC gear. Additionally, champions trunks are only applicable to who the game has listed as champions. In UFC 3, players were able to select champions trunks for whomever they wanted, roster members and CAFs alike. It would be nice to have those options back.
UFC-branded gloves still appear to have an issue when worn by CAFs, also. For some reason, the corner color tape (red/blue) doesn't show up for CAFs wearing UFC gloves, it just shows up as white tape. This doesn't need to be a pre-fight selection, it just needs to change based on the corner the fighter is in, as it does with the members of the official roster.
Ankle wraps are still missing as fighter gear options for CAFs, despite being worn by multiple members of the official roster. These were present as options for CAFs in UFC 3, but have still not been added into UFC 4.
For some reason, gear like masks, hats, shirts, necklaces etc. don't have an option to be designated as pre-fight only. When you apply these extra items to a CAF, they wear them during both the walkout, and during the fight. It would be nice to be able to just designate these items as pre-fight only, that way a CAF wearing the official UFC/Venum gear isn't wearing a t-shirt during the fight.
Presentation Issues
When choosing the UFC Apex facility as the location of a bout, the presentation still shows that it's for the Tuesday Night Contender Series. This is despite the fact that several major UFC broadcasts have taken place in this arena, both ESPN cards and PPV cards. Players should be able to choose the presentation style to their liking.
During celebrations and ground grappling, the body types (physiques, heights) seem to fluctuate for fighter character models. This is especially noticeable when Israel Adesanya is celebrating a win in the post-fight, as he looks really bulky during these animations despite being one of the skinnier fighters in his division. Similarly, Brock Lensar appears to slim down considerably when on the ground. No idea why this happens.
For legend fighters (Chuck, Tito, Forrest, Severn, etc.), would it be possible to set things up where players can select the new Venum trunks for them, in addition to the classic ones they're using by default? Seems like that would be an easy addition. Certain legend fighters like Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate, Dan Henderson, Lyoto Machida, and Daniel Cormier already provide the option of wearing the Venum gear, may as well add that option to the other legends.
Is there a way we can disable the pre-fight taunt selection in offline modes? This feature has always been a bit cringy to me, and I honestly have no use for it. I'd like to see an option implemented to just disable this in the options menu.
CAF-Specific Problems
Away from the apparel issues discussed above, there are other problems related to CAFs that have yet to be addressed. The biggest of them concerns the fighter archetypes. I understand that archetypes were implemented in this iteration of the game to curb the problem of overpowered CAFs in online matches. While I agree that this is a problem worth addressing, there's no need to take away the attribute/perk/fight move customization for offline players, considering these options were present in each previous iteration of this series. Why not set things up where players can edit the attributes/perks/fight moves for their CAFs offline to their liking, but are forced to choose an archetype when taking the CAF into an online match? This would allow for the same offline customization that was featured in each of the last three games, while still preventing the online issue that you've set out to fix. Best of both worlds, is it not?
It would also be nice to be able to assign specific details/fun facts to CAFs. When a fighter walks out, the presentation shows them getting checked out by the officials, and some facts about that fighter show up on the screen. For CAFs, it's basically a combination of the same generic facts, usually saying that they're making their UFC debut, or something of the sort. Why not include a feature where players can write their own, or select from a few preset options? This would just add to the customization, and to the realism of the in-game presentation style.
Related to the point above, there should also be a feature where players can assign a career record to a CAF. This is me purely being nit-picky, but it always looks weird when I see my created version of Fedor having a career record of 0-0. He's not exactly a rookie at this stage of his career, nor are most of the other CAFs I've made.
Fighter Likeness Updates
I'm happy to see that more and more fighters are being added to the roster with each update, but my goodness, there are a TON of changes that are needed to some of the fighters already featured. To name a few:
- Todd Duffee: His model hasn't looked right for several years now. His character model looks like one of the more puny heavyweights compared to others, despite him actually looking like a real-life comic book character. Bulk him up, top to bottom. I know he's not exactly been the most active heavyweight in the promotion, but if you're going to have him featured in the game, he at least ought to look more accurate.
- Zabit Magomedsharipov: Just scrap his model and start over at this point. Hair, facial hair, and physique are all wrong. Slim him down, shrink his head, and update his hair style. Keep the face, I guess.
- Clay Guida: For some reason, he looks far bigger than he should. When compared to other lightweights and featherweights in the game, he looks huge, despite him being one of the smaller guys in both divisions. This wasn't an issue in UFC 3, so whatever you can do to mimic his relative size from that game, that would be for the better.
- Brock Lesnar: I don't know what's going on with the logos on his legacy trunks, but...can we get rid of those? They straight-up look like the product of an unaddressed glitch.
- Francis Ngannou: His head looks a bit too big compared to how he really looks. Shrink it down a bit.
- Aleksei Oleinik: Make him a bit chubbier, and shrink his head.
- Daniel Cormier: his character type looks the same regardless of whether you've chosen the heavyweight version or the 205 version, despite his physique looking noticeably different between the two divisions. His 205 version should look a bit slimmer. A similar critique can also be applied to fighters like Cowboy Cerrone, Conor McGregor, and other multi-weight fighters with respect to the divisions they fight in. Conor is noticeably bigger at 170 compared to 155 and 145.
- TJ Dillashaw: His head needs shrunken a bit, and he ought to be toned up.
- Frankie Edgar: Update needed to his hairstyle.
- Angela Hill: Update needed to her hairstyle.
- Tim Means: as some have recently pointed out on the official Discord, he model in the game looks big enough to be at 185 or 205, despite being at 170. He needs slimmed down quite a bit.
- Anthony Smith: He needs slimmed down a TON. He looks massive, both at 185 and 205. He'll likely need his head shrunk a bit, too. Whatever you can do to address the size of his model would be a welcome change.
- Uriah Hall: it looks like he was bulked up a bit, which is good. It would also be nice to see his beard added, considering he's sported one in many of his most recent bouts.
That about covers it for now. There's plenty more I have on my so-called wish list, but I think this takes care of the issues that can be more easily and realistically addressed in this version of the game. I know changes are being made with each new update, but I'd like to see some attention paid to the issues listed above, as most of them have been referenced time and time again since the games release, both on these forums and on the official Discord.
Feel free to add on to what I've got listed. I'm always interested in hearing what the rest of you guys think.
