Feedback for Devs - HP Reverb G2 and RTX 4080 with OpenXR

Hi,

Managed to get a good couple of hours on the VR Beta last night, and noticed an issue that I thought best to share with the devs.

Before I start I am running the game in VR using a HP Reverb G2 with an RTX 4080 and 5800x3D CPU, and 3600Mhz DDR RAM using OpenXR runtime.

I have managed to get the game up and running in a somewhat smooth (80-90fps) but hardly amazing visual fashion using;

  • Basic Graphics > Cinematic AA + Fovated Rendering 3 + everything else off (see issue below why everything else is off)
  • Advanced Graphics > Medium present (only change being Dynamic Objects set to High to reduce the pop in effects)

The issue I have is that as soon as I touch any Antiscoptic Filtering or Upscaler setting I get this strange image wobbling / jittering effect in the left display of the headset which gets worse when you move your head, and makes it virtually unplayable - weird that it is in the left eye only.

Hopefully this is something you can fix for the full release.

Thanks

  • I found that the left eye thing happens with DLSS.  Are you using dlss or any other upscaling thing?

    Have you found steamvr more stable than WMR?

    are you running any special settings with openxr tools?

  • Seems to happen whenever I change Antiscopic Filtering or Upscaling, and the only way to stop it happening is switching both off.

    I haven't tried SteamVR runtime, as it screws up all of my other games that run perfectly on OpenXR - I will try that next though definitely.

    I had to disable OpenXR toolkit as that was crashing every time - I believe there is an issue that can be fixed by disabling OpenXR fovated rendering in the registry, but again don't want to mess other games up that work perfectly.

    All in all very frustrating experience so far but admittedly it is beta so appreciate there will be bugs and issues.

    Having all the exact same issues as you.  4070 Ti, HP Reverb G2.  Also running without Steam VR but unable to utilize any upscaler without the distortion you've described.  When I try running it through Steam VR the game turns into a slide show.  Hoping they can fix this one so we can use upscalers.

  • Thank you, at least i know its not specific to me, am sure they will fix it (fingers crossed!).

    I read on another post that when you select the upscaler disabling dynamic resolution might fix it - havent tried that yet but will do and report back.
