Pimax Crystal problem running the game in VR

Hello, I just got EA WRC but I have trouble starting the game in VR. I have a Pimax Crystal headset. What happens when I start the game is that I see the EA Sports video properly in the headset and I get the question whether I want to play the game in VR or not. After that I briefly see the health warning but then my headset shows only the standard steam VR grid. The game starts and I can hear the music but the steam VR grid is all that is displayed in the headset.

I have changed to steamVR OpenXR. Any ideas how to start troubleshooting this?
