Pimax "Render Quality" vs SteamVR "Resolution per Eye"

How exactly do these two settings interact, and how should they be set?  I'm using an RTX 5080 with the Crystal Light.

It's really unfortunate we can't use OpenXR with this game, in order to eliminate SteamVR entirely.
