We shouldn't have to use the keyboard in VR

First, we have to select that we want to play in VR, and can only select this with the keyboard it seems; is there no way to default to VR?

Then when we get to the first screen, we have to hit Enter to proceed and can only hit Enter.  This should be possible with our default input device; wheel button for instance.

Thanks!

  • Its something on your end as wheel buttons / motion controllers both work for me.

  • No real need for the KB if the enter button is assigned on the wheel you could use the wheel. Only Mouse for start of the game.

For the first two screens?  Everything on my wheel works after that, but on the first screen, I have to select VR with keyboard or mouse, then hit Enter on the next screen before I can do everything on my wheel.

Yes, also on the first two screens I continue with button 1 on my wheel. The game has to be in focus, so test it with a mouse click inside the window and then continue with the buttons of your controller. You should be able to select the upper (continue) or lower "button" also with the up/down buttons. On the next screen (with the car) it shows press lower blue button to continue but only when I use the wheel in first screen else it shows press enter but independent of the button prompt I can always continue with the button 1 on my wheel.

Maybe you have not started your VR tools beforehand and so they "steal" the focus of the game window.

That's not the case for me unfortunately.   The window is in focus, but my wheel buttons for up/down/select, and everything else have no functionality until I've 1.  Selected that I want to play in VR, and 2. hit Enter on my keyboard on my next screen.  My base is a Simucube 2 Pro, and my wheel is a Simagic GT Neo, so I assume that's the difference.

You can add "-vr" (including the quotes) to the launch options in Steam to make it start immediately in VR instead of asking.

When it says "Press Enter to start" you can instead press A on your VR controllers. Still annoying - not sure what the purpose of having to press anything at this point is.

  • Thanks; added the -vr to the command line and will try it out later.  I'm not turning on my VR controllers for this; no need - it's a sim, not Alyx 🙂

Agree that having to hit Enter is pointless.
