Xbox pre-order has all non-campaign content locked

I preordered the game on Xbox. I installed and went to play, only to find all multiplayer content locked. When I try to access, it brings me to a screen asking me to sign up for Xbox game pass. When I decline, I return to menu screen with this error in the bottom corner:

I’ve tried reinstalling, unlinking my account, and rebooting my system  

I tried deleting my EA account but, lo and behold, there is  o direct way of doing so - you need to submit a form and… the submission page on the site isn’t working (I’m surprised this isn’t a legal issue given consumers right to cancel in the US…)
