Hey all.
Just a post today in regards to the state of FFB in the F1 games.
Main Point: Running no TC is impossible due to zero tyre slip feedback in-game.
As per the main point above, you get ZERO, and I mean LITERALLY ZERO warning or added vibration from the wheel when you’re about to spin out. This makes slow speed corners literally impossible because you’re having to guess the amount of throttle input to apply. If you go a percent over, you spin without any warning. If you go under, you’re losing time on the exits. This means you have to run full TC which is neither satisfying or fun, nor is it at all quick.
I’ve literally tried every FFB setting combination at this point. High FFB, low FFB, wheel damper, everything. Nothing makes it possible to read a spin on this game.
The Solution
So I’ve been playing other games like FH5 and Forza Motorsport. As Forza Motorsport is another sim-type game, that’s the one I’ll discuss. When I opened up that game I was pleasantly surprised at the depth and detail to which you could customise your FFB settings. Most notably, there was a setting called Dynamic Damper Behaviour, whereby the strength of the wheel’s resistance changes when tyres are slipping (i.e. you’re about to spin).
I will attach images showing both the F1 25 and the Forza Motorsport FFB settings screen, and you can see how much better FM’s is. There’s even settings like road feel scale and load sensitivity - I see these as settings which will allow us to be able to feel oncoming spins and grip loss.
All of this is to say, that F1 25 needs all of these added settings and maybe even more - the game needs both the ability to feel these moments of grip loss as they progress, as well as the ability to scale these feelings, both of which ARE in FM and are not in F1 25. Because let me tell you the feeling driving in FM was brilliant. First try, I was running no TC, no stability control or anything like that, driving a rear wheel drive V8 Supercar which was wheelspin central, except I could feel EVERY slide, and most importantly, REACT and CATCH all of these slides! So satisfying, and allowed me to be fast!
TLDR: Add FFB settings like in Forza Motorsport and other similar racing games. F1 25’s FFB settings are pathetic for a sim racing game and not nearly thorough enough. Something like dynamic damper behaviour is ESSENTIAL so that we can actually feel when the car is slipping! This is not an issue on controller because you get the motor rattling aggressively under your throttle finger which is perfect. For wheel, you get none of that feeling.
P.S. Ignore the wheel FFB values in the image provided for F1 25, I actually run 65 FFB strength and 8 wheel damper, 0 on everything else as recommended by the community which still gives me ZERO traction loss feeling.
Thank you for your time. I would REALLY appreciate your thoughts, and a comment from the EA team. ❤️
