Here is a golden example of it happening mid-game. You can see me spamming varial heelflips for the daily challenge, and right as the challenge completes it starts reading on the trick log on the left, that it starts reading as "switch XY" and then upon booting the mission I am stuck in regular, as you can't change your default stance within a mission.
