GAS leadership should prevent health lost while he's standing but during my GAC match Great Mother targeted Rex, he started losing all protection, at some point dropped to one health and then Fives sacrificed while GAS was standing.

but since you are asking this question let me break it down for you
1. at the start of the battle great mothers will repeatedly take bonus turns if there are no enemies inflicted with Doomed (so stunning her won't work) and use the ability that inflicts Doomed on target enemy. Doomed is basically Protection Disruption plus a few other things and can't be copied dispelled resisted or evaded hence :

2. Great Mothers reduces the Max Health of Doomed enemies, so Rex isn't technically being damaged, his cap for Max Health is just being reduced to one but he still have 100% health throughout, and GAS just makes it so that ur clones cannot fall below 100% health hence
at some point dropped to one health
