The small rewards mostly help towards the goals (except freezer boney) so you don't really need them but it shouldn't make the interface malfunction so that you can click.
There should be a new patch coming soonish to address some of the issues with the event so I'd say, lets see if that fixes anything for you.
You can also try moving the accountdatadb.package file to the desktop. This also contains any happy home login rewards that will be gone if you remove the file but those will be added to the base game with the same patch so you don't need to worry about that.
