Game crashes upon death
Bug Report: Battlefield 2042 Crash on Death Animation So earlier today I started back playing Battlefield 2042 after not playing for about a year due to the new Dead Space collab with the new Outbreak mode. However, I'm having a serious issue where every time I die, right as the death animation starts to play, the game freezes and crashes immediately with no error message. This happens in all modes. I've looked online and seen others with similar issues. Some reported that deleting the cache folder for the game helped, but it was only a temporary fix — the issue returned within 30–45 minutes. Since deleting the folder didn’t help, I decided to reinstall the game, even though it’s large. Unfortunately, the problem got slightly worse: it started freezing even faster, sometimes before the death animation even starts. I then consulted ChatGPT, which recommended analyzing the crash dump file using a program called WinDbg. I did so, and shared the analysis with ChatGPT to interpret the results. ChatGPT Response Summary: Root Cause Summary: The crash was due to an Access Violation (0xC0000005) — specifically a read from a null or invalid pointer (0x0000000000000008). Crash Details: Module: amdxc64.dll (likely part of AMD graphics drivers) Function: Boost Serialization (boost::archive::detail::iserializer::load_object_data) Crash Reason: Attempted to read from RCX + 8, but RCX was NULL (0x0), leading to a crash. Contextual Clues: Crash occurred while BF2042.exe was running. Involves amdxc64.dll — a common AMD GPU driver library. Occurred during Boost serialization and DirectX 12 GPU pipeline operations. Likely Cause: A pointer used by the AMD graphics driver during deserialization or pipeline setup was NULL, causing the game to crash. So at this point, having done nearly every troubleshooting step and even running diagnostics with the help of ChatGPT, this is the closest I’ve gotten to an explanation. Hopefully someone from the developer team can help investigate further. And yes, before anyone asks — I did try switching the game to run in DirectX 11. The same issue persists. With Update 8.8.0 on Battlefield 2042, we will require that Secure Boot be enabled for PC hardware that can support it. This will provide you with a higher standard of trust and safety while you play select EA titles. As cheat developers keep evolving their tactics, we're stepping up our game, too. To keep Battlefield 2042 fair and fun for everyone, we're strengthening our defences, especially against cheats that try to sneak in during the Windows boot process. This move supports our Positive Play commitment and helps ensure a level playing field for all players. If you attempt to load the game following Update 8.8.0 without Secure Boot enabled, but are on a piece of hardware that supports it, you will be prompted with a message stating that Secure Boot is required. Secure Boot is a feature available for Windows 11 and Windows 10 devices, and you can learn more about how to enable this functionality via our EA Help article here. (‼️At Your Own Risk‼️) How to Reset Secure Boot if Battlefield 2042 Does Not Recognise It Before you proceed, consult your motherboard manual for precise steps. BIOS/UEFI menus vary by manufacturer. EA is not responsible for any damage or loss of data. ‼️This is at your own risk.‼️ Incorrect changes to BIOS/UEFI can render your system unbootable. Verify that Secure Boot, not just UEFI boot, is required. Ensure your system boots properly with CSM (Compatibility Support Module) disabled. ‼️Consult your motherboard manual‼️ for precise steps. BIOS/UEFI menus vary by manufacturer. EA is not responsible for any damage or loss of data. Steps to Reset Secure Boot Enter BIOS/UEFI Settings Restart your PC and press the designated key (usually DEL, F2, ESC) to enter BIOS/UEFI. Locate Secure Boot Settings Navigate to the Security or Boot tab. Assess the Current Secure Boot State If the Mode is User, you can usually enable Secure Boot directly. If the Mode is Setup, follow these steps: Disable Secure Boot (if it says Enabled). If it shows Standard, switch to Custom. Then switch back from Custom to Standard, and accept factory defaults. Enable Secure Boot. Optional: Reset Secure Boot Keys In some BIOS/UEFI versions, you can select Reset/Delete Secure Boot Keys under the Secure Boot settings. Save and Exit BIOS/UEFI Save your changes and restart your computer. Verify Secure Boot Status in Windows Press Windows + R, type msinfo32, and press Enter. In System Information, check the Secure Boot State field. If it says On, Secure Boot is enabled and recognised by Windows. If it says Off, revisit the BIOS to adjust settings. If it says Unsupported, your hardware may not support Secure Boot. Restart and Launch Battlefield 2042 Launch the game to check if Secure Boot is now recognised. The problem I am facing is that I updated the game to Battlefield 2042 with the latest update, and when I entered the game, it turned out that I was using version 5.0.0 New Dawn update instead of the latest 8.9.0, and I could not play the game again after the update. Every time I enter it, it tells me that there is a problem connecting to EA, knowing that it is working properly.BF2042 Crash – Access Violation in amdxc64.dll
Battlefield 2042 crashes reproducibly during DirectX12 pipeline initialization. Two minidumps analyzed with WinDbg show an access violation inside amdxc64.dll at offset 0x208080. Exception code is 0xC0000005 – a read from NULL (rcx = 0, [rcx+8]). This happens inside a Boost::serialization function. Stack trace includes D3D12Core and BF2042's DeviceInit. Application Verifier was enabled in one test, confirming the error. amdxc64!boost::archive::detail::iserializer<sc_xml_iarchive, _SC_SI_PS_ATTR_CH_ENTRY>::load_object_data+0x208080 Exception Code: 0xC0000005 – INVALID_POINTER_READ Address: 0x0000000000000008 (rcx was null) The crash occurs while accessing [rcx+8] where rcx = 0, indicating a null pointer read inside the driver module, likely triggered by the game engine (Frostbite) when handling serialized shader or graphics data. Suggested Action: Please investigate how BF2042 passes pipeline/shader data to the AMD driver. A faulty object or driver issue might be the cause. Coordination with AMD may be necessary.Battlefield 2042
Hey, guys. I have downloaded the Battleield 2042 again after version 8, when the EA decided to require all players to use God **bleep** Secure Boot. Now my secure boot is on, but I still face issues during playing. For example, today game may just crashed and closed automatically without any error. My PC is not a potato so it should handle this game: CPU: i9-14900HX GPU: RTX 4070 RAM: 16GB I am so done with troubleshooting all this staff. I have this game installed for already 1 month and I am troublesooting it EVERY day. For now I would just recommend EA to remove the stupid Secure Boot. At the same time I will ask this community to help to indetify/fix misconfiguratoin that may result these issues. Letme know if you need more details of my PC or OS that will help you to determine the issue. For now I will just delet this game, and will wait untill I will get an answer here to donwload it and retest it. p.s. EA requires Secure Boot reasoning that it will not allow cheaters to use cheats. Guess what, that will not block them. Majority of cheaters already know how cheats work and most of them work by injecting data into the memory space of the game. But this stupid secure boot that may just totally break your OS. Besides it may not stop cheaters from cheating. SECURE BOOT IS NOT AGAINST INJECTABLE CHEATS. Secure Boot will make the usual player go and enable it from BIOS (which is not recommended at all unless you know what you are doing, if that was a good thing Windows will be installed with it pre-enabled). I have also heard that they are testing Secure Boot on BF2042, just to make it prerequisite for BF6. Guess how many players will play that game? EA stop destroying your own games!!! Thanks everyone for you help.Newly added Portal Gamemodes not working properly with AIBots

Hello! It's almost 2026, and Battlefield 2042 has been released for such a long time. It's another cross platform game, so it should also support native direct connection between keyboard and mouse, right! Don't always talk about fairness, isn't cross platform support for keyboard and mouse in COD still playing? No wonder the sales are worse than COD every year, ignoring player suggestions. I hope the gaming team can attach importance to the addition of keyboard and mouse on console platforms. Thank youWill not update. Xbox series S
Hello, I have plenty of storage space available and my xbox is completely fine running other online games and apps. I went to update battlefield today and it stopped at 6 percent. I went to resume and it stopped again. I went to cancel the update and it un-installed the game. I'm now reinstalling the game and it won't let me install now. I'm only having issues with this game and my series S is running good. I don't really know what to do.
