EA SPORTS FC 26 v1.1.3 will soon be available. Driven by your Career Mode feedback, we’re updating CPU AI decision making with the intent of making it challenging and engaging to play against, especially on higher difficulties.

The CPU AI will now aim to:

  • Look for passes more often and make quicker decisions about them.
  • Dribble more effectively with sharper turns, less straightforward movement, and less dwelling on the ball.
  • Switch players on defense more often in situations where trailing the runner is not beneficial.

These CPU AI decision making updates apply to both Competitive and Authentic Gameplay. As a reminder, the term CPU AI here is referring to the virtual user controlling the team you're playing against in offline matches.

Thank you for all your feedback so far, we’ll continue to watch it closely in this space. Feel free to let us know what you think of this update directly through the Player Feedback Portal:

Throughout the EA SPORTS FC 26 season we'll provide you with more information and updates if and when they become available. Be sure to follow @‌EASFCDIRECT on X and WhatsApp, and check out the EA SPORTS FC Tracker for the latest news and updates.

    Interesting changes but:

    • Tackling is still too binary; there is no fight for the ball, you either get tackled and lose it, or you don't. There's no fouls.
    • Adjacent to the above, the AI is too conscious of the distance between your defender and their ball carrier, they don't take risks, or try to dribble, they just run away and cycle the ball, meanwhile your own players are happy holding hands with their defenders when you're in possession.
    • Wingbacks/fullbacks aren't moving forward without manual intervention; conversely Wide Midfielders set to defend, are very slow to do so; the team should basically be reverting to a back 5 if you have 3atb and lose possession. (they also don't stay WIDE).
    • The AI still rarely crosses, and it feels like goals scored are always shots smashed high, from through balls into the centre
    • Some animation choices and transitions need reviewing. Keepers sometimes make dives that are almost avoidant of the ball, defenders are easily dispossessed in situations where they're stuck in a longer animation controlling the ball, and sometimes players just end up facing the wrong way for whatever reason.
    • Players are too eager to return to defensive/off-the-ball positions instead of pressing after ball loss (or in general, they'll sometimes leave a player alone because they've strayed too far out of position, letting that player through), there's no way to increase pressing intensity beyond the defensive line position and this doesn't work consistently across the length of the pitch.

I've submitted all these through the feedback portal and provided video evidence of most of these but no one's looking at them.
