I recall seeing that it is being done so that people don't have a head start in the next era but that logic doesn't really work if you then sell people a head start
You're probably confused about what era currency is. Era currency is the currency you spend in the store. None of it is used in the era itself.
It is also used to level up the Era characters, not just the store.
People don’t have a FREE head start. More profits for CG this way, if people choose to spend. Some will.
That's exactly what they are doing. They are SELLING the head start and removing the possibility of a FREE head start.
I think it falls in line of their original intents. Of course players willing to pay still have an advantage, but everyone starts at square one at least, with mats and lvl currency reset. Otherwise, the era marquee system would be pointless. It would be like the old way; releasing a new character but old accounts may have a huge amount of gear, zetas, and omicrons stockpiled to instatly relic them.
This brings old and new accounts (at least as far as F2P accounts are concerned) to the same starting point.
