I think it falls in line of their original intents. Of course players willing to pay still have an advantage, but everyone starts at square one at least, with mats and lvl currency reset. Otherwise, the era marquee system would be pointless. It would be like the old way; releasing a new character but old accounts may have a huge amount of gear, zetas, and omicrons stockpiled to instatly relic them.
This brings old and new accounts (at least as far as F2P accounts are concerned) to the same starting point.

Can only hope it's a decent conversion rate and NOT Jawa Scavenger rates or worse.

Where does it say that era levels 66-70 convert to extra gear pieces? I don't see it.
The game says EL65 becomes GL12, EL75 becomes GL13, nothing about what happens in between.
(Maybe it will, just that I haven't seen it)The Era Level Currency exchange rate will have to be terrible. Every 5000 Era currency is one LST and a free Relic character. They aren't going to give those away just like that.

The full Era Level to gear level conversion is in the recent Andor Era article.

And they aren't just giving out LSTs for free. A lot of people paid crystals and real world currency in order to get Episode Passes and gear and so forth. This is a return on that investment. If the ratio is terrible then people will spend a lot less in the upcoming Era season.

It is also used to level up the Era characters, not just the store.

It's not OK that you are taking away era materials, especially considering that you swapped a lot of the nodes on the episode track to era materials. I buy the episode pass regularly, also for the Kyros and high relic materials that used to be in it, but at least in this last episode a lot of those were gone, and replaced with low level era materials that I can't even use anyway. That would have been acceptable if I could at least use them in the next era, but now it appears you're just taking away a lot of the episode track I paid for.

Are we sure? Because they originally said “credits”. If you go to the store to buy materials it still says “credits”.

WHY?!?!?!?!? Why the era leveling currency?!?! Can’t you just leave that one alone?! Please?!?!??? **bleep**!

I think you are (understandably) confusing the currencies. Era level currency will be converted era currency (with this you buy lsts and r10 mats) and not episode currency, which has that limit you mentioned and you use it to buy dcs, omis, kyros etc.
Edit: My fault, didn't notice the cap there. But I feel like unless you have over 100000 of era currency you should be fine, I don't see them giving us a lot.

Why are you so upset? We were aware of era level currency being converted into something else . We were told it would be credits which are way worse in value than the era currency. Now I'm not really defending cg, they weren't transparent at all during the last year (since new bad batch imo) and now they aren't really much better, but this change is prefferable by anyone who can actually understand their million and 1 currencies. Also I didn't spend money on the new marquees, so I may be wrong, but isn't the main paywall behind the materials and not the currency? Like I have all units at level 70 (I bought 6 units to 4* with crystals) and there really wasn't problem with the currency, so unless it is way more noticable when you get to 5, 6 and 7 stars I feel like you are off base. Still hope though cg will be more forthcoming because the things they showed us they were (not) capable of, don't really bode well for the game's future.
