"It rewards those who have "made the climb"."
And there you have it, this was never about improving the quality or longevity of the game. This was a thinly veiled endeavour to get more money out of the whales/kraken and pressure those who are already struggling into spending money unnecessarily on something that won't help them. There were other ways of doing this like others have suggested but you were wholeheartedly fixated like a heroin junkie wanting to make a quick buck without the slightest care of who you hurt in the process. And a significant amount of your fanbase has been hurt by this, just read the comments for proof.
Here's my issue with this, in GAC there are a plethora of players in the lower leagues with massive GP's that but ridiculously strong (in relics and mods) teams on defence and then wipe out whatever their opponent will place in defence. I started an alt account a few months ago currently in carb 1 and the last GAC round I had, that exact scenario happened. My opponent had 8 mill and a few GLs, I managed to reach a draw but lost on account of GP difference. This relic delta idea (And I use that term extremely loosely) will make that scenario more frequent and will result in players either being forced to spend or forced to quit. And let's look at TW! It's a mode in desperate need of major rehaul for rewards and there is a cancer in TW called sandbagging. Sandbagging is a major problem in the game and it's becoming far more frequent with zero repercussions for those who do it and punishes those forced to face the sandbaggers. Relic Deltas will make that situation even worse. Result? Forced to spend or forced to quit.
But CG, tell the truth. Those people are the people you want to look after because they pay to play. They will part ways with whatever amount of cash you demand if it means they get the shiny bauble you dangle in front of them. They won't grind to unlock characters or get them to X relic level to get Z legendary. Not when they can just pay for them. And that's fine, I'm okay with you making things harder for the casual or the free to play consumer in order to get even more money from the whales and krakens. You know why? Because I (and hopefully a lot of other people) won't spend a single penny on your product ever again. Not a LSB, not a daisy chain offer. Not even a cheeky little crystal pack. You've played your cards and it was a poor hand.
Let me tell you about a game I used to play called DC Legends, it used to be quite popular but unfortunately the developers get greedy and started wanting more money but weren't delivering to their target audience. The allowed glitches to happen which would freeze the game and sometimes the game couldn't even start. Sure they pretend to care offer slightly decent compensation but it kept happening all the while attempting to squeeze more money out of players. Eventually, the group of players called the court of owls who spent the most and were ranked number one, they had enough and every player in that group said they would now longer spend money. This was a group who some members were spending an average $100 A MONTH! You know what happened then? Everyone stopped spending to once word spread about the court of owls. A couple of months later the game and I believe the studio shut down.
You're on the precipice of learning two painful lessons: 1) You need us a lot more than we need you. And 2) There's always an alternative.
