Okay, you can say Relic Delta isn't MSF Overpowered.
But, here is what Overpowered was, and why it caused a 20% player loss in the game:
The Overpower system was a catalyst for the player exodus for several key reasons:
Replaced skill with stats (this is exactly what is happening w/ Relic Delta): Many players felt that Overpower devalued strategic play and synergy by giving an insurmountable statistical advantage to higher-level, fully invested characters. This created an unfair "rich get richer" dynamic in PvP modes, where spending players could dominate without needing to counter or strategize.
Furthered power creep: The system significantly raised the power level of top-tier characters, creating a massive gap between those who could invest heavily in the new system and those who could not. This disproportionately punished mid-tier and free-to-play players.
Negative community feedback: The community reacted with significant backlash and protests, including boycotts and flooding the developers' livestreams with anti-Overpower sentiment.
***WE ARE HERE: ***Despite the overwhelmingly negative feedback, the developer, Scopely, initially defended the system with revisions rather than a full reversal. This further alienated players.
Compounding issues: Overpower didn't exist in a vacuum; it exacerbated existing frustrations with the game's direction, including an overwhelming number of new characters and a relentless upgrade treadmill. For many, it was the final "straw" that made them quit.
