My input:
What is stopping me from just leveling taunting characters to R9, and nothing else? I don't see how this doesn't end up w/ a bunch of R9 tanks w/ R3-5 other characters DPS in non-kyber level combat. Or instead of people trying to make teams that eliminate their opponents on defense - they make teams that purely focus on stalling until the game clock runs out. OHK characters are going to be even more valuable.
This is going to really, really mess with TW in a not good way in my opinion. Personally TW is my favorite game mode, I enjoy helping my guild and making weird, unpredictable teams. Relic delta ruins this entirely.
There is already so much "busy work" content in the game. I can't remember what the mode is called - but when new characters are released, in the Solo Events section, I have to play 3-4 game modes for the new character or ship for like a week straight. It's super annoying. Give me the ability to SIM this. It's a waste of my time and makes me not want to invest in new characters. I have actively not been investing in some new characters because of the time sink this causes.
I am not F2P, I am not a whale. I have probably spent $500 on this game over 2-3 years. It seems like a lot of arguments are "black or white" (f2p or whale). I would bet there is a HUGE amount of players that meet in the middle, like myself. I play games to have fun. I spend money if I see value. These proposed updates remove value from this game for me because it eliminates a lot of strategy.
This new update throws the theory crafting and strategy out the window. I think you summed it up really well when you say:
"We’ve heard the concern around Relic Delta eliminating strategy (mods, counters, theorycrafting), but we aren’t seeing a complete elimination of strategy during either internal testing or the current playtest."
This is such a sad statement. :(. I don't mean to be rude. You are actively acknowledging that you are eliminating strategy - and a lot of it with this previous sentence for supposed "longevity" of the game.
Not everyone wants to make cookie cutter teams. Some people want to make a QGJ lead w/ Poncho Bro's on defense to mess with people in GAC and TW. Some people want to figure out the best way to utilize Biggs and Wedge when the characters have been dead for years.
With the relic update, I will no longer be spending money on this game - purely because you are eliminating a lot of the strategy, and thus eliminating a lot of my fun.
Someone else commented this, I wanted to share it again as I think it's intelligent and an alternative approach. It rewards higher relic tiers, without making it totally impossible to "punch up."
"if your looking for more punch per relic and more reason to invest why not change the way existing relics scale in stats? If you increase the stat gain or multiplier it essentially does what your seeking without simply putting damage mitigation and multipliers in place simply because someone has a relic. "

This reminds me of an interview w/ Jeff Bezos about metrics. Just because you're pulling a metric, and the internal documents say it's accurate, but complaints from your customer base say otherwise - test the metric.

I think it's highly probable your data / metrics need reviewing in this instance.
Best of luck to you and this game. It's one of the few games that has captivated me in the last 5 years. I'd hate to see it leave my life.
I also found it weird they didn't give the data for TW.
