Re: Sims 3 won't connect to EA servers

@emmanline_annie  There was a similar issue in the fall, but it was resolved a while ago.  I wonder if it's back.

Anyway, please let me know what OS you're running (Windows or mac, and which version), as well as any packs you've installed, on either computer.

It would also help if you could screenshot the error message you're getting, in case this needs to be forwarded to EA people.  In Windows, you can take a screenshot by hitting Windows key-shift-S and dragging your cursor over the area you want to capture.  Then open Paint or another image editing app and use crtl-V to paste the screenshot.  In mac OS, hit cmd-shift-4 and drag your cursor over the screen; the shot will land on your desktop.  For either image, you can either attach it or insert it into the text body of your reply.

  • Thank you for you reply! Here is my computers information: HP ProBook 6450b, I am currently running with Windows 7.

This is the message I keep getting:

My desktop was wiped years ago. I only have Origin on the laptop now and it's only with the base game.

@emmanline_annie  I have to admit, I've never seen that exact message.  So if the usual troubleshooting steps don't work, I'll ask an EA community manager to look into this (which will have to wait until tomorrow).

First though, try clearing Origin's cache.  If that doesn't help, you can uninstall Origin "the hard way" and then reinstall.

It's also possible that your antivirus/firewall is blocking the connection to EA servers.  Try disabling it temporarily, just long enough to launch TS3.  If that works, be sure to set exceptions for both TS3.exe and Origin.exe.

If this doesn't help either, you may want to contact EA customer support to ensure that there's nothing wrong with your account.  If your base game code was deactivated, by mistake or not, you wouldn't be able to launch TS3 at all.  Live chat should be available at all hours; if you don't see it, try switching your location to U.S.

  • I've done all of those things before. And I've uninstalled and reinstalled both Origin and the game multiple times with no luck... I have also tried contacting EA and have received no answers from them whatsoever...you're the only person I've had try to help so far.
I'll try to contact them again in that case. Thanks for your help!

@emmanline_annie  EA support isn't always able to troubleshoot game and install issues, but someone should definitely be able to tell you if there's a problem with your account or your TS3 codes.  If you don't get anywhere with support, let me know and I'll ask a community manager to look over this thread.

One issue that occurred to me is that your OS might not be updated.  The most current version of Windows 7 should still work fine, but I don't know if an older version would.  This would be a question for someone who's better with Windows than I am, but I can ask around.

In the meantime, it would help if you ran a dxdiag; you can attach it to a post here.  That will cover a few issues at once, as well as list your OS build.  Since you're on Windows 7, the dxdiag won't have all the information, so it would be helpful to grab some info from the reliability monitor as well.  Another hero explained how to do this here:

The only other thing I can think of at the moment is that there's a leftover registry entry from TS3 that's interfering somehow.  When you uninstalled the game, did you also clean the registry?  That's where the TS3 codes would be, and an old code combined with a new install can throw some weird errors.  If you're not comfortable cleaning the registry yourself, you can use an app like Piriform's CCleaner (free download).

And again, I'm happy to keep trying to help.  If TS3 is on your account, you should absolutely be able to play it.
