Disc versus Download Game Purchases
Hello EA Support Team,
Given the current Covid-19 crisis, we've had to find new ways to come together as a family unit and as a community. While I put aside my console gaming life after college, I recently decided to purchase an XBOX gaming console and connect with the gaming community. A few of my family members are Gamers, and given the circumstances, I wanted to find a meaningful way to connect.
As a welcome to the 'gaming family' gift, my brother-in-law was kind enough to purchase Battlefield 1, the complete package which comes with the Base Game + Premium Pass including 4 expansion packs. I opened the game and saw that it was a disc format, but was also accompanied with a redemption code. Long story short, after redeeming the code, downloading the game and attempting to play, I experienced an issue. After hours of reading trouble-shooting Q&As, speaking with someone on the phone from XBOX, then reaching out online via chat to a customer support rep at EA sports, I learned that the disc format cannot be used with my 'All Digital' non-disc console.
I'm struggling to understand my only two options: 1) Return the game to wherever it was purchased and exchange it for a non-disc game format which would include a redemption code for the Base Game + the same redemption code for he add-ons. Note: The COVID-19 crisis makes this more challenge then normal. Regardless would still be a challenge. 2) Purchase the Base Game online and pay an additional $19.99, despite someone else already spending the money for the game.
The question I ask myself, is how is it possible that in a world where we download games/apps on our mobile phone and TV....that we don't have the ability for games to be sold with both the disc and redemption code included? Why would we make it confusing for even a gamer, which age might play a factor, but nonetheless a gamer mistakenly bought the wrong game format as a gift which can not be used with my non-disc console. Furthermore, why would the disc format (version) contain the Base Game on the disc and the add-ons via a redemption code? We have to make this easier on people, especially if you want to convert non-gamers to active-gamers.
Hey @EmanCerva for any game the additional content is almost always byways of a digital code in the box to accompany the disc.
For the Xbox, if you have the digital-only version of the console then when purchasing games you will need to do so through the Xbox store or by buying digital codes in-store. Any boxed Xbox game will not run on your system as you will be unable to load the disc to install and verify the game upon launching it.
