Shields Guide!

Hey everyone,

This guide I have here is going to talk about shields, such as the types of shields this game has, how the shields work, what they are designed for, how to use them well and so on. I will provide videos to give you an insight of how these shields work, and provide some stats that the shields have as well.

Read on if you would like to learn more about these shields.

GENERAL TIPS

Here are a couple of quick general tips, that I have personally made, that you can do with shields in general. These are common techniques that you can utilise with any of the shields:

  • Shields prevent you from receiving critical hits and are immune to critical hits.
  • When multiple enemies are nearby, using shields can really enhance survival for your team.
  • Use shields while you revive allies for extra protection.
  • You can use shields as a way to regenerate your health quite easily.
  • Use shields, especially when you are at low health, to reduce your chances of being vanquished.

TYPES OF SHIELDS

Peel Shield (Citron)

Peel Shield is Citron's secondary weapon that can be pulled up at any time, unless destroyed, as it is Citron's secondary weapon and it does not count as an ability. This shield has a lot of health and is designed to protect yourself and your team from incoming fire, which you can do at any time unless it is destroyed and it has to regenerate. However, Citron cannot fire or use abilities while the shield is active, meaning that you need to rely on your allies to deal damage against your enemies, or you could try to quickly regenerate your health using your shield by blocking damage and then fire back when you have regenerated. You move slower while your shield is deployed, so keep that in mind. If you have lost ammo, you actually gain 8 ammo for free whenever you successfully block enough damage with the shield, meaning that you do not have to reload, and this is a reliable way to regenerate your health as well.

For more information on Peel Shield, check out this page on the PvZ Wiki: https://plantsvszombies.fandom.com/wiki/Citron_(PvZ:_BfN)

Shield Stats:

Health: 600 (extremely high).

Advantages: Large size, can protect you and lots of allies at once, it can be taken with you, gives you ammo when blocking enough damage.

Shield Upgrades:

  • Quenching Cover (2 upgrade points): When you successfully block damage using Peel Shield, you gain 16 ammo instead of 8. This is good if you like to use this technique (shielding) in order to gain ammo.
  • Peachy (2 upgrade points): For each enemy you successfully manage to stun with your E.M. Peach ability, your shield gains 200 health, which is 1/3 of your shield health. If you really like ulitising your shield's potential, you can use your E.M. Peach to quickly or immediately regenerate your shield. If you stun 3 enemies with an E.M. Peach, your shield's health will immediately become full.
  • Kinetic Energy (3 upgrade points): You gain 40 health back for your Peel Shield whenever you successfully deal decent damage to enemies, meaning this is a good way to regenerate your shield much faster after it is destroyed or it has taken significant damage. It takes a while for your shield to fully regenerate, so this is a good way to get it back much faster.
  • Peel Out (3 upgrade points): You move 35% faster whenever your Peel Shield is active, meaning you can catch up to allies faster while you use it or to counteract the extremely slow speed you have while it is deployed.

Dummy Shield (All-Star)

Dummy Shield is one of All-Star's abilities that deploys a domed shield that protects all angles from enemy fire with a dummy in the center that holds the shield up. This shield has a moderate amount of health, which can protect multiple teammates at once, including yourself, from enemy fire. Your team can move in and out of it as they please. You are also able to shoot inside the shield without restrictions while you are inside of a Dummy Shield. However, the shield does not have too much health and the center of the dummy is actually very weak to enemy attacks, meaning that the shield can be destroyed extremely easily if an enemy gets into it. Be mindful of this and try to place it a distance away from enemies so they cannot easily access your shield. The shield has a cooldown of about 25 seconds and it lasts about 15 seconds before it goes away on its own.

For more information on Dummy Shield, check out this page on the PvZ Wiki: https://plantsvszombies.fandom.com/wiki/All-Star_(PvZ:_BfN)

Shield Stats:

Health: 300 (moderate).

Advantages: Covers all sides, you can protect multiple allies and a wide area, you can shoot inside your shield.

Shield Upgrades:

  • Injury Time (2 upgrade points): When you revive an ally, in your Dummy Shield, you revive them twice as fast, or in other words, it takes half as long for to get the revive, which is useful for easier revives and for protecting yourself and your revived allies.
  • Star Struck (3 upgrade points): When you deploy your Dummy Shield, enemies that are nearby get knocked away, meaning that they are less likely to destroy the center of the dummy, and also to distance enemies from you and your nearby allies. If you knock enemies away this way, you reduce the refresh time of your Dummy Shield as well.

Alpha Better Shield (Super Brainz)

Alpha Better Shield is Super Brainz's shield that can be pulled up at any time. Just note that using the Brainium Basher 9001 upgrade removes your shield and you lose access to it, unless you have the Extra Special upgrade, in which case it only gets deployed when you use Super Ultra Ball. When used, it pulls up a personal shield that is designed to give you personal protection. The shield has a moderate amount of health and it can protect you from enemy fire as you approach enemies or when you try to regenerate. This shield has a unique ability, instead of moving slower while it is active, you actually move faster while you use it, meaning it serves as a very good way to approach enemies more quickly. However, keep in mind that you cannot attack or charge up an attack while you use the shield. As this shield is not an ability, you can use it at any time, as long as it is not destroyed. It covers Super Brainz's entire front.

For more information on Alpha Better Shield, check out this page on the PvZ Wiki: https://plantsvszombies.fandom.com/wiki/Super_Brainz_(PvZ:_BfN)

Shield Stats:

  • Health: 160 (moderate).
  • Advantages: Move faster instead of slower while it is active, it covers Super Brainz's entire front.

Shield Upgrades:

  • Extra Special (1 upgrade point): Your shield automatically pulls itself up whenever you fire a Super Ultra Ball, good for protection while you use this ability. This also works if you have the Brainium Basher 9001 upgrade equipped, but your shield only gets held up during this ability in that case.

Shogun-Guard's Shield (Kernel Corn, with Shogun-Guard Legendary Upgrade Equipped)

Shogun-Guard Shield comes as part of the Shogun-Guard upgrade for Kernel Corn. You do not get the shield by default on Kernel Corn, you need to equip the Shogun-Guard legendary upgrade for 5 upgrade points to access this shield. It is Kernel Corn's secondary attack (with the Shogun-Guard upgrade equipped only) that can be pulled up at any time. When used, it pulls up a personal shield that is designed to give you personal protection. The shield has really low health and only covers the top half of the front of Kernel Corn. However, it has lots of unique features. While your shield is active, you can also use your primary weapon, reload, use Butter Beaon and use Shuck Shot while you hold your shield, as often as you like, meaning you can provide cover fire even with your shield up, unlike all other non-ability shields.

For more information on Shogun-Guard's shield, check out this page on the PvZ Wiki: https://plantsvszombies.fandom.com/wiki/Kernel_Corn_(PvZ:_BfN)

Shield Stats:

  • Health: 75 (very low).
  • Advantages: You can use your primary weapon, reload, use Butter Beacon and Shuck Shot with the shield active, and the shield does not require the use of an ability.

Shield Upgrades:

The shield does not have any upgrades, but you need to have the Shogun-Guard upgrade equipped in order to gain access to it. It comes along with a changed primary weapon, which does more damage at the cost of less ammo and speed (but it has an almost identical DPS, from what I have heard previously). To make the most out of this shield, being able to be accurate with your shots will really benefit you in terms of being able to deal lots of damage all the while protecting yourself when you want to or need to.

Asteroid Shield (Space Cadet Passenger)

Asteroid Shield is one of Space Cadet Passenger's abilities that provides a shield which protects a significant amount of the entire Space Station. It has a low amount of health, however a total of 3 Asteroid Shields can be active if there are the maximum of 3 Space Cadet passengers on the station. The Space Station itself cannot use an Asteroid Shield, but they can use Space Force to massively reduce the cooldowns for the passenger's Asteroid Shield abilities. The Space Cadet passengers can still attack and use their abilities while their shields are active, as well as the Space Station itself. Asteroid Shield cannot be cancelled by Space Cadets, unless destroyed in which case the refresh time will start, however as a passenger, you can jump off and jump back on to cancel the shield and start the cooldown again, which is useful if there are no enemies nearby and your shield's health is really low at the time. The Space Station cannot control when shields are used and activated, so if you are a Space Cadet passenger, make sure you consider when the best time to use the shield is. When the shield is destroyed or you jump off and on the Space Station, excluding the use of Space Force, it takes 20 seconds to cooldown.

For more information on Asteroid Shield, check out this page on the PvZ Wiki: https://plantsvszombies.fandom.com/wiki/Space_Cadet_(PvZ:_BfN)

Shield Stats:

Health: 100 (low).

Advantages: Protects the whole station, the passengers can still attack and use their abilities as normal while the shields are active.

Shield Upgrades:

Ammo Eater (2 upgrade points): Connected Space Cadets gain 10 ammo when they successfully block damage with Asteroid Shield, good for maintaining constant fire.

CONCLUSION

Shields are really useful tools which can help protect your team, allow you to revive allies more easily, improve survivability of you and the team, and ultimately win more fights. By understanding how shields work, you can understand what situations they are best used, how to counteract their disadvantages and all that. Understanding shields and how they work can be useful in basically all modes, including PvE, PvP and Ops, and are great for so many uses.

Hopefully this guide on shields were useful!

See you later!

Quick Tip: If Citron has his shield up, DON'T GET CLOSE TO HIM. He'll have plenty of ammo and may have an EMPeach ready. It's best to take down the shield from a distance since it makes you shots actually deal damage and even give the dude's some XP. It's a win-win situation! Yeah it takes very long to destroy it but with a team it's fairly quick.
(Not really a tip but whatever.)

Actually, something else I wanted to add to this guide: the links I provided, I also used in the making of this guide.

@Fork_x_Spoon That cracked me up, good stuff. 🙌 By the way, excellent tip. Not something that I particularly thought of. Your solution is going to be accepted. Well done. That’s actually a really good tip! 🙂 That might help me against annoying Citrons!
