I dont know if I got lucky by waiting a little bit, but the 6 key on my keyboard is also the resupply shortcut. I pushed this and the game unfroze and let me continue.

It's funny you should mention that. I went back to story mode again today and after waiting, alt tabbing out and back in again, that very message about pressing 6 came up. It would appear this issue can go away.
And thankfully I'm past it and back into story mode. Thanks for taking the time.
