The FIX for Audio Cutting Out

Product: Star Wars Battlefront II
Platform:PC
What is your issue related to? General
Summarize your bug I was noticing that every time the audio would cut out (especially on Kashyyyk), it sounded as if the multiple audio tracks were colliding or one of the tracks was corrupt. On Kashyyyk, it always sounded like there were multiple audio tracks playing at the same time for some reason. I don't really notice it on any other map. I adjusted my audio settings to the screenshot attached and played full back to back rounds on Kashyyyk and my audio survived when it never has before. The Fix Update: I just played 15 complete matches of GA Kashyyyk and my audio is still working. I have played over 50 matches of Galactic Assault matches in a row since I made this setting change with no issues so far. As far as I'm concerned the audio cutting out issue is fixed for me on my PC. My advice for DICE is to either disable or remove the "Continuous" music option as well as give the audio system an opportunity to recover when a new map is loaded. IMO, I believe this issue of the sound cutting out is the game's audio system crashing without the ability to recover. The ultimate trigger causing it is the exact moment all audio tracks play at once or in some combination. For instance: 1) Game action sounds 2) Game background music (I believe this is the "Continuous" music 3) Your player's audio command/emotes 4) Your mission commander's voice 5) Perhaps even other players around you I think this audio system crashing is random because each individual player has to have this exact scenario happen to them for the audio to crash. If you don't get this perfect storm, the audio keeps on working. For some reason, Kashyyyk appears to have the most audio tracks available to be played than any other maps which is probably why it happens on this map the most but it does occur on other GA maps although less.

  • Hello @the-creative-pup !

I always get excited if someone finds a fix for this, since there are so many players on PC that encounter this.

Sadly, the settingslist that you provided is almost the same as the settings I've set for the past year (and I have encountered this bug last week...).

I had my dynamic range set on MEDIUM, so I will set that to NARROW just as you. Once I had the time to play Kashyyyk I will report back with my findings!

  • It works for me. I've now gone a week since I made this change and it still works. Just for laughs, I changed these settings and the audio stopped on the first match. Personally, I don't care because I don't feel it'll ever be fixed officially so if this helps *anyone*, then it's still better than the alternative.

I am 100% certain it's the audio system crashing and not just related to the Kashyyyk map because I've had the audio cut out on Hoth and Jakku too.

I can sadly confirm that this is not a permanent fix. I have selected the exact settings as you did and just experienced the sound bug.

Every time I get this bug I have to restart my PC. Very annoying!

  • Despite it not being a perma fix (I didn't test it yet though), it may lead to a narrower investigation field to the causes of this BUG. As it has never happened to me in any other mode except for Galactic Assault*, maybe its bigger nature allows for more sound samples to be started together or just be played together and that causes an issue. I'll play a bit with sound settings to see if I can find more info about it. Thanks for the effort @the-creative-pup

*I actually experienced sound cutting out in HvV a few times a long time ago, but it was always together with character models becoming totally or partially invisible, so I'd guess this is a complete different issue then what we usually experience in Galactic Assault
