Instant action is a mess
I never really cared about the offline modes. Recently though, I had a bad internet connection so I decided to try instant action just for fun. Seemed good enough, but I quickly realized after playing a few matches that the mode is extremely lacking and becomes unenjoyable very soon. I know that fighting bots is never as good and exciting as fighting players, but it still has many issues classic Battlefront didn't have - and those are what make it very annoying:
- The difficulty level is a gigantic jump. You won't feel anything on rookie, maybe have a longer (but definately a winning) match on regular, and face an unbeatable challenge on expert.
- This is mainly because of two things: 1 is bots have a ridiculous amount of aimbot. Heavys can snipe you across distances that should be impossible with the basic heavy weapon. Same goes for assault. They also have an extremely fast healt regen, so if they can fond cover, they'll come after you with full health a second after. I know "expert" level is meant to be difficult, but it's not in a good way. Bots spawn behing you, predict your movements and come for you in an extreme amounts. You'll always getting overwhelmed and even if you're good, the aimbot gets you every time. No way to avoid it, didginf, flying, jumping or even knocking enemies down doesn't work: they can keep firing while dodges, jumps and falling, and most of the shots will land.
- The second problem is your team. While the enemies are smart and just great at overwhelming, you team is usually dumb as a rock. Most matches go down the same: you start, capture the two CPs nearest to spawn, and then more than half of your team (including many reinforcements and heroes) decides to camp one command post. They're supposed to "defend" I think, but no matter what, they just stay there, usually spending the entire match AFK. This means you have half the troops against the enemies. And the remaining half aren't that big of a help too - they have a tendency of getting stuck at random places, falling down on ledges, and even deathtroopers struggle to kill regular enemy assaults and heavys.
- Heroes can make matters worse. Your heroes are absolutely no help, they just camp a CP or rush into the crowd to die in seconds; while enemy heroes have the same amount of aimbot, so those who has high blocking stamina (like Obi-Wan) will just reflect every shot at you with perfect accuracy over long distances. Enemy heroes spawn very often. If you chose a saber hero, you're dead. The enemy just overwhelmes you and you either camp their spawn or die trying to do something. Some blaster heroes (like Bossk) are very good at crowd control, but most of them also just get overwhelmed very quickly. There are no strategies here like in online, no escaping, flanking or trying to attack behind the enemy: the bots are perfectly aware of every move you make and the aimbot gets you eventually. Those edgy enemy heroes even have the balls to emote every time they kill you - which would be fun in a balanced mode, but here it just makes me want to play this mode less.
As long as there is online, I think no one cares about instant action, but when the game dies and servers close, the mode becomes a waste of time and effort. No one will come back to the game for this mess, and it's kinda sad we are left with this after the game ends. I don't except Instant action to be as good as a multiplayer match, but I rather get beaten by a group of skilled players with a well-working team than a huge amount of bots packed with unfairness. In classic BF2, instant action was fun since bots could only do just as much as you. Here, it feels like they're having superpowers.
