Re: Game won't launch

Hey, I might have a fix for this. My friend had the same issue recently. we both had the game working for ages and the sudden switch from Origin to EA caused both our games to break and stop launching. Whether you had one or the other installed, after re-installing, game not locating, or after installing EA manually, where it removed origin as part of it's installation.

I don't have enough datapoints to say this is a reliable 'solution' as such, but what I do know is it fixed both our games completely and allowed us to play again. We thought the game was going to be dead for ever but there are a lot of players active on Steam so we were determined to find a way.

Install Frosty Mod Manager. You can use mods or not, makes no difference.

Then install 'FrostyFix' from github /dyvinia.

run both these applications as administrator.

FrostyFix may ask you to download an additional file from Microsoft dotnet, download and install it.

Choose the appropriate options for your setup from Frostyfix and then launch the game via frosty mod manager.

This should get you up and running again. We are both using Windows 11 with the latest updates.

From what I can tell, there is some sort of issue of unknown origin that messes up the game's datapath and these modding tools work around that.

If this doesn't work for you DM me here or add me on EA 'CommandoJigga' and I'll try my best to help you out futher! I only joined EA answers to troubleshoot this game.

Add me on Discord. My disc is mynameisBlade#0216. I tried this as I have been at my wits end and it still didn't work. Does this method have to be through steam? I have the game purchased on Origin and even if I run both frostymodmanager and frostyfix as admins then launch from the manager, it will still do the EA Play application opens then shuts then just opens again with no game launching... ☹️ I can stream my screen for you so you can see exactly what I am going through. I have been at trying to get this damn game to work for over a week. Funny thing is I was literally just playing it early last week, and now I can't even get the .exe to launch..... ugh... Any and all help would be most appreciated my friend!

  • @BladeisfurySent you a request! If FrostyFix doesn't help, run it again and click disable mods. Uninstall EA Desktop and install the old origin from the link DarthFDG posted. Make sure it is on the C drive. Let it add the shortcut to the desktop, right click it, and run as administrator, then launch the game via steam or epic. Hope that helps!

Can you post any updates for the resolution if you three found anything as a solid fix? I'm sure I'm not the only lurker here with their fingers crossed? LOL

  • Easy money hey EA?  You sell me a game, that won't launch, you send me an error message that says the fault is at your end, but you do nothing about it.  I must try that, talk about scammers, EA are the biggest with this scam/

@C0untSuDooku Frosty Mod Manager worked for me too -
I have Star Wars Battlefront II in Epic Launcher, but this kept trying to open Origin and Origin can't be used anymore and tells you to open EA app. When I try to launch the game from EA app, it opens Epic launcher and so the loop continued.

Initially, I couldn't launch the game with Frosty either, but then I changed the launch option: Tools > Options > Launch options and changed this from Origin to EADesktop. - After that I was able to launch the game and play.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

This worked for me just fine. I've been two months trying to play the game, I even added more RAM to my PC worring about that, but Frosty Mod worked.

In the Launch options the game was, In fact, trying to launch from Origin, even when I downloaded from EA App.

I was worried for not being able to play online, but everything works perfectly. Well, everything except the fact that If I close the game I apparently have to restart my PC If I want to open the game again, maybe there is something else to do, but beside that, Frosty Mod was the definitive solution for this problem.

  • I'm really happy that this has worked out for you and a few others here. 🙂

I have experienced intermittent moments over the months where some situations will cause the game to not launch without repeating some steps of the fix.

And many here who have said this straight up doesn't work for their issue.

Therefore I'm going to do a clean install of windows 11 this week and record a video of the process setting the game up and getting it running from scratch to try to address everyone else who had post in this thread. I'll get it posted here and set up a steam community group soon. Where a few of us can help.

I have created a mod pack for frosty that, on both systems we have tested it on, (Intel/nvidia RTX & Intel/Radeon) it:

    • fixes / completely removes all in game server / ea / error messages about services being down, not connecting, having to spam click connect etc. Instant auto login every single time, never clicking again!

    • removes VOIP (mic) from the game so you no longer have to mute people

    • fixes all random and triggered / buggy ingame crashes to desktop (the game never crashes)

    • full visual graphics overhaul (lore friendly)

    • shows hero and villain selection during multiplayer pre-game

    • shows live map during multiplayer pre-game and on all character selection screens

    • Removes ea/dice logo videos on launch and instantly loads to menu and connects

Mods are properly synced with the game and you only need to launch the game with frosty mod manager ONCE. It will work perfectly every other time when launched fron ea app, epic or steam as normal.

    • New loading screens to verify all mods are working

    • over 100++ other game improvements and new hero villain skins characters and voicelines. Lots of new sound effects and incredible voice line swaps for all characters. New playable heroes and villains.

I want everyone else to be able to enjoy my favourite game.

If there is any interest contact me on Discord or Steam.

@Zacharybinx34then you will need to click through to settings and locate both the frosty installation folder and the game folder manually.

The game will then remain in the frostyfix list.

  • @C0untSuDooku Thank you so much. I had been trying to run the game for the past 8 hours.... I initially wanted to try mods and installed Frosty and for some reason the mods werent working and I ended up deleting frosty and the mod files... Only to not be able to launch the game anymore.... Who knew that the cause of the problem was also the solution.
