Re: The Sims Medieval not launching

@Kracken_Pants To start off, The Sims Medieval Launcher (SMLauncher.exe and SimsMedievalLauncher.exe) does not work for Origin installations; the game is launched directly through TSM.exe.

To delete Origin cache, please follow the steps described on this page: https://help.ea.com/en/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/

To delete The Sims Medieval cache, please go to Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims Medieval\ and delete the following files:

• CASPartCache.package
• compositorCache.package
• simCompositorCache.package

Then, try (re)installing DirectX 9 from Microsoft's website, using these instructions, and restart your PC.

If the game still doesn't run, please send a dxdiag to this thread: https://help.ea.com/en/help/pc/how-to-gather-dxdiag-information/ 

Oddly enough, those cache packages aren't in that folder. There isn't a lot in there at all, which makes me think that it's not installing correctly. I attached photos just for reference. I did all the other steps just to be sure, but it still wouldn't launch.

I'll do a dxdiag report and send it to that thread. Thanks for your help!

@mate54 nope. Installed it and rebooted the computer and still wouldn't launch. 

Did you ever find anything that worked?

I’m currently having the same issue and I can’t seem to find anything that’s working.

@CalachuI tried it but the game still didn't launch for 5th gen. I still think that the problem is on EA's side and should be fixed by them, not us or me.

@Tele_AD_97 I see I'm not the only one who craved chaos on this nice Christmas day x) sadly I can't figure out how to run the code ☹️ Someone (@ ea or windows) pls fix this I haven't played the Sims Medieval in a year since I changed computers to a better one ☹️ ☹️ Happy holidays! if someone felt generous with their time and explain in simple words how to run the code to this smol bean I would really appreciate it  🙂 🙂 

@sakuraskeletonk  Hello there, my system language isn't English, so what I'm about to say may not be very accurate. But I'm gonna try my best :D

It's quite simple actually, I'd suggest you to search "how to run powershell code" if you find my explanation confusing.

You need to: 

1- Open Notepad, copy that code and paste it.

2- Save the file as .ps1 , repeat, suffix has to be ".ps1".

3- Before you run the game, right-click the .ps1 file, choose the second option "run with Powershell", you'd see a blue window saying "Launch Sims Medieval..."

4- Now you can start your game! Remember, you have to run the code everytime before playing.

The same applies to TS3, it also has a powershell code for Gen-12 CPU.

Still did not work for me ☹️  The powershell window is literally flashing open and close once - does not let me check if there is anything on it. And I am trying to open a case with EA and it is only letting me refer to already existing EA questions.

@Cassugia and @sungirl128 , so you both tried the Powershell workaround and it isn't working for you? Do you have Sims 3 by chance and is that working?

No I do not have Sims 3. Used to have it but after installing Sims 4, I could no longer get used to the UI. What I really miss from that is the travel pack - the sims 4 never captured the essence of the adventure like sims 3.

@Cassugia , so you still have it in your Origin account? Or you totally deleted it. Powershell seems to the be the only way to get Sims 3 and Sims Medieval to run on Windows 11. I Googled "Powershell Sims Medieval" and a video on YouTube popped up that might help you as it will show you step by step what to do. I'm afraid I cannot link the video here, but you should be able to find it doing a google search.

@Cassugia I've met this problem - after playing TS4, my TSM cannot get started. I've found no soluntion yet except reinstalling TSM, which is quite troublesome indeed... But it works.

Unfortunately the powershell workaround doesn't work for me ☹️

@a123lol321a are you running on a Gen 12 Intel Processor? If you are not and are simply running the game on Windows 11, you should not need Powershell to run the game.

Yes, it's Gen 12 Intel Processor and I'm on Windows 10.

None of the solutions in the thread worked for me so far

i found one when the person talks about fixing it via powershell or via task manager and setting affinity

unfortunately neither worked

i guess i'll just have to put the sims medieval to rest

Okay, so I have something that might work for you. I have this same issue on my Dell G16 with both the Sims 3 and Sims Medieval. The setting affinity in task manager worked for me until I had to migrate from Origin to EA, then neither worked. Uninstalling and reinstalling worked for Sims 3, but not medieval. It didn't bring up a launcher for me to be able to go in to task manager, and the powershell option outlined here didn't work.

What I tried instead was to go into task manager and details, and set the affinity to cpu/processor 1 for the actual EA app prior to clicking play on Sims Medieval. IT WORKED. So follow the task manager process you've found in other threads, but do it with the ea app. Hope this helps!!!

I just want to reach out and say thank you for posting that script. I've been having the hardest time getting Sims Medieval to run and I was so mad because it's my favorite Sims. Now I can play it again and I'm so excited! Thank you again!
