Could you try a new save game for testing reasons to see if the error persists.

Make sure to close down the game completely, then start a new game.

  • Hi Crin,

I went in and started a completely new game with a totally different Sim.  Once I got her baking skill up to level 2 decorate was an option.  The only thing she could decorate was the Oatmeal Cookies.  Everything else I baked including sugar cookies, and peanut butter cookies could not be decorated and this Sim did the same thing as my other Sim.  She flailed her arms as if something was in the way.  I even tried to move the cookies to a different location and that didn't work.  I tried to decorate everything she was able to bake at level 2 including donuts, cereal bars, doughnut holes, bread, fruit tarts, peanut butter cookies and cupcakes.  Up until recently I was able to decorate all of those and more.  Out of curiosity I went into my saved game that I have been playing and had my Sim bake Oatmeal Cookies, she was unable to decorate them.

Also I have had the glitch with not being able to use the fridge and stove without repairing my game first.  Tonight I just went in without repairing and I did not have the problem.  My origin updated tonight so I do not know if the problem was maybe fixed or I just got lucky.  Since I've been having the problem all the time I normally just repair the game before playing.  Using the fridge was not a problem with either game the new one or the saved one.

    Thanks for your help.

I am unable to replicate this in my game.  Can you please post a picture of what is going on in your game?

I actually had this issue before the patch myself for the cupcake stuff.

I'll test again tomorrow after patch and with no mods..

I baked something on the cupcake machine and then tried to decorate (home lot).

I was getting this but I had to move the cookies toward the edge of the counter and it worked.

So it's extra insensitive. All the other interactions seem possible from where my Sim put it (once on a half-wall, once on a counter.

Bit unsure what to do with this as I think you shouldn't have to move your goods just to decorate them when you don't get routing failures for other interactions.

    I'll do some more testing.

Tested this on my vanilla and same problem occurred.

If I move it back a little on the counter she puts it, it works.

It's certainly not deal or game breaking but I'm going to leave it on the list for now.

  • I have had this issue since the beginning, and I still have it after Dine Out and the latest patch. I was hoping since counter space seems to be used a bit more efficiently now, small bugs like this one might have been fixed, but unfortunately I still have to manually drag my baked goods somewhere else to have them decorated :[

  • I have this issue too:-

sims seem to prefer to place food on islands rather than counters - only once they are there they refuse to decorate the food because the path is blocked. This happens if the island has a stool next to it. This means that if you have only 1 island with a stool the sim will always place the food there then refuse to decorate it. This means you endlessly have to move the food to a counter to allow the sim to decorate it. Rather than this it would better if the sims either placed food on counters or after being asked to decorate the food, moved the food to the counter themselves, then decorate.

  • Confirmed that this issue persists after the October 27th, 2016 update.

By default the Sim will put the baked goods somewhere where they cannot be decorated. You have to manually move the baked goods to the edge of a counter, but unless you know the exact position it needs to be in, it takes a few tries to get it in the right spot to be able to decorate.

It is a very annoying issue. A fix for this and for 'no ideal mood for baking' would be greatly appreciated!

It works when you put the baked good towards the end of the counter/towards the sim.

  • My garnish is greyed out and if I hover over it, it says the cake is so good it doesn't need a garnish. I'm going to pull out any mod I might have affecting it, and I'll post again if one of them is responsible. Totally ruined my toddler's b-day, poor baby.

My sims can get the food to make a plate and eat it. The food can be poor quality, but when I go to decorate it they say they can't reach it. I don't have any mods in the game. I have used regular cheats in the past. I try moving the food to various places, countertops, picknic tables, ect. They just say they can't reach it.

  • Yep, got the same issue, ragardless of where I move the goods, edge of any type of counter or table, etc. Center of any counter table etc. repairing game game, reinstalling game, yeah none of that stuff works for me. I'll tell ya what will though. The devs need to find and fix the pathing issues with this and put out a patch, plane and simple. No try this, and try thats, no reinstalls or repairs, just have em fix their game, so we can all move on. 🙂
