Re: [FIXED] Sims return from Work/School early after loading screen

Same problem for me as of Nov. 6, 2018.  Whenever I have a sim leave for a GTW career, any other household sims return to the home.

  • I'm having the same problem too. Doesn't seem to be holiday based but rather random. I have two adult sims who work but also run their own business on their days off and a child sim who goes to school and used to go to scouts. As I said, it seems to be random but I've taken to saving the game prior to my remaining sim heading out but so far I've found this bug also affects the save too so if I find my sims return and I try to restore, the sims have still come home when I load up the save. I say it's random but it seems to be random days rather than anything else. On the rare occasion I have a save from just before the work/school sims head out, it doesn't make a difference since the bug will still be effective if you restore to it. Closest I have found to a fix for it is to send the home sim out before the work and school sims go out, which can be a nuisance if the work sim is having to leave really early. It's mostly annoying because work sims lose a lot of wages and school sims lose on the responsibility scale if you have the parenthood pack. Tbh this isn't the only issue and I'm noticing a number of issues, some with quick fixes and some with no apparent fix.

This issue has been going on for a while now, with no built-in fix seeming to be in sight.

The only thing I've noticed that seems to work is the following workaround:

    - Send a sim to another lot, without the Sims that need to go to Work/School. (Try a commercial venue or something.)
    - Once the sims who need to go to Work/School do so, move the sim you moved to another lot, back to the active lot.

(Note: Do NOT move the sim to another commercial venue or non-active lot; doing so seems to trigger the Work/School sims to return to the active lot.)

It's a temporary workaround that I've been having to use, and it actually works well if you have a Sim that has a job as a Doctor/Police Officer/Scientist since it forces a lot change anyway. That said, it doesn't work if the sims that need to work leave before the sim you move off the lot does.

So to any who need more of a simplified explanation of this workaround:
    - Sim A & B need to go to work.
    - Sim C does not need to go to work.
    - Move Sim C to a commercial venue or different lot until Sim A & B go to work.
    - Move Sim C back to the active lot.

I haven't tried it with situations where the sims that need to go to work aren't on their active lot when they leave for work, so the workaround may not work in specific situations like that.

Is there any news on this? Are we getting a patch? It’s making a huge negative impact on the game, and I’d really appreciate an update.

    • If a Sim is at work or school on the day of a holiday, they will no longer return home from work/school early if another Sim in the household travels somewhere during the holiday.

Taking feedback if this is still occurring for anyone (with or without holidays)

    Fixed in Patch 1.47.49

  • If this is truly fixed in 1.47.49 I'll be so happy! I haven't been able to play for months because there was no point when I kept losing so much progress every time I decided not to be tied to the house all day.

  • Since getting the patch, I've started having issues with children coming back from school early without anyone leaving the lot or having a holiday. I have five in one household, and currently they just come back one at time rather than all at once. I don't have any mods/cc running.

  • I think it started around 9, then continued roughly every half hour until all but one were home by 11:30.

  • Currently having this issue on the PS4.

I've tried 3 different times to send one Sim strawberry picking on Rebate Day while the other Sim was at work. I even sent him to 3 different lots. Every time she came home as soon as the loading screen ended. Every time she had worked less than an hour.

I've only owned the Sims 4 for 2 weeks and only got Seasons yesterday plus my PS4 is almost always connected to the internet so I could be running the latest patches but I haven't figured out how to double check.

ETA: Apparently the only save I had the last time was AFTER she left for work on Rebate Day. When I reloaded she came home early again, this time after just minutes (Sim time) of work. So she lost a full day of wages in the "furniture on the lawn" stage of my legacy run.

    @crinrict

This issue seems to be back on PC.

As I loaded up my game to test the speech-watching issue, my Sim who was at work when I had saved and exited came back home early.

I loaded back in at 7:39PM in-game, and immediately got a notice that the Sim had come home from work, even though they aren't off until 9:00PM.

This came with a performance hit and of course only enough pay for the amount of time they had worked.

Here's the save it's happening in, just in case it's needed:

Oh, this wasn't from traveling, this was from saving and exiting while the Sim was at work, and then loading back in.
And so far it's happened every time I've loaded, but something else also happened.

On my save I play rotationally, and one of the families I play is a Trend Setter, who has the ability to create trends, basically outfits that you can see Sims out in the world wearing.

That's a different family from this one, though.

Anyways, this time while loading in, and still coming home from work early since this is the same save I uploaded, this time he loaded in wearing one of the Male Trend outfits the other family's Trend Setter had made, even though he's a played Sim, and this seems to be happening randomly every time I reload this save and he comes home early. (and also with the Stressed from Work Tense moodlet this time, but I guess that's because the game rolls for a work moodlet at the time a Sim comes home)

There weren't any Seasons holiday going on, but the Spice Festival stuff was still in the process of despawning, and on that save file, if you load in and check the streets, you can see evidence that the Spice Festival had recently been there.

What with the vendors standing where their festival stalls had been, the spice festival curry on the ground and people being mostly huddled around where the bench tables had been, some with food still in hand.

So maybe the fact that the Sim had been at work during a City Living festival when I had saved and exited, that may be related to him coming home from work whenever I load this particular save?

At the very least this wasn't related to Sack Lunches, since I haven't used them before. (at least successfully, my Sims don't come home from work when they eat them because they never choose to eat them, but that's a totally unrelated issue)

And I'm not getting a prompt asking if he should leave early, he just leaves as soon as I load in from the main menu, so it doesn't seem like it's the same as in that other thread, either.

I can try just accepting this situation and trying again on another work day to see if I can make it happen again, but if I make a new thread, how should I name it?

Because the situation seems very similar to what happened with this older issue.

As a matter of fact, I have an old post here on Page 4, comment #31, where I was having troubles and there was a City Living festival happening then as well.

The only difference now is that there isn't also a Seasons Holiday on the same day, but just like then they're leaving work upon loading up the save.

I would just try if it happens on another day as well or if it could be connected to the festival. The more info the better.

You can just name it a new thread: Sims leaving work on loading save ?

It's a complicated issue as there are a few instances that can make it happen and mixing them up will make it complicated once one issue get fixed but not the other.

Thanks, I'll try again the next time a work day comes around and especially the next time it comes around during a City Living festival!

At least I found a workaround to keep the Sim at work until his shift was over this time.
When resuming the save game, instead of loading into the family's apartment immediately, I chose a venue, in this case Planet Honey Pop karaoke bar, chose the Sim from the household who wasn't the one at work, and loaded in to the karaoke bar lot. Doing it that way, the other Sim stayed at work, and from there travelling back home worked fine, with the Sim who kept leaving early on load-in still staying at work.
  • Hi!  I read through this thread and what has been happening to me is actually a little different.  You know those events that happen at school or work, where they give you a choice?  Well, my child Sim had one of those prompts, and immediately after answering it, she came home from school, and I couldn't send her back.  About one Sim-hour after she came home, both of her moms came home from work with no loading screen or prompts at all.  It doesn't happen too often, and it usually occurs without the prompt.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

Did you give then any lunch packs ? If not, please create a new thread.
  • Yes, I gave all three of them lunch packs.  Thank you so much for your help, by the way!

  • Yep, that's it. I didn't give them any sack lunches and they all stayed a full day at work/school. It's a shame, really. The sack lunches are so cute.
