Re: [ARCHIVED] Orange/Green Exclamation signs over lots / Houses disappear

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.106.148.1030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? For Rent, Horse Ranch, Growing Together, Highschool Years, Cottage Living, Cats and Dogs, Seasons, City Living, Get to Work, Get Famous, Island Living, Discover University, Get Together, Snowy Escape, Eco Lifestyle, Werewolves, Vampires, Realm of Magic, My Wedding Stories, Dream Home Decorator, Parenthood, Dine Out, Spa Day, Outdoor Retreat, Strangerville, Jungle Adventure, Journey to Batuu, Crystal Creations, Home Chef Hustle, Moschino, Tiny Living, Laundry Day, Vintage Glamour, Cool Kitchen, Backyard, My First Pet, Perfect Patio, Toddler, Movie Hangout, Fitness, Bowling Night, Romantic Garden, Spooky, Luxury Party, Paranormal, Nifty Knitting, Kids Room, Goth Galore, Castle Estate, Modern Luxe, Book Nook, Basement Treasures, Greenhouse Haven, Bathroom Clutter, Simtimates Collection, Everyday Clutter, Pastel Pop, Desert Luxe, Decor to the Max, Blooming Rooms, Industrial Loft, Courtyard Oasis, Icheon Arrivals, Country Kitchen, Bust the Dust, Throwback Fit, Carnival Streetware, Fashion Street, Modern Menswear, Moonlight Chic, Little Campers
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? I don't know.
What happens when the bug occurs? When I add people to a Residential Rental, other lots in different neighborhoods become unplayable. A green or orange exclamation point appears over the lot, and when I load it, it is empty. If I attempt to replace the building or place anything there, it disappears when I go back into the lot. -- It's always the same neighborhoods that get corrupted. First Magnolia Promenade, then Forgotten Hallow, then Oasis Springs.
What do you expect to see? I expect a game that allows me access to all the lots.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Yes
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. This only started happening after installing For Rent and adding Residential Rental lots.

When I add people to a Residential Rental in Willowcreek, other lots in different neighborhoods become unplayable.

I do use mods, but I have removed them and disabled them to see if that has helped. It hasn't. The problem still happens.

I don't have this problem in Saves where I have not added Residential Rentals.

I hate to be the one to have to tell you this but when that starts happening, the save is corrupt.  It will only get worse if you try to keep playing the save.  It's an issue that has been happening off and on for several RL years and predates For Rent.  It has been happening more since For Rent though judging from the number of posts here at AHQ.  For all intents and purposes, why it happens is still unknown as there are so many possibilities as to what causes it.  The link to the main bug thread is below.  The first report is from 2021.  You might want to me too the first post in the thread.

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/OPEN-Orange-Exclamation-signs-over-lots-Houses-disappear/m-p/10533991#M197875

The bottom line is that the lots that have the orange or green triangle with an exclamation point are corrupt.  You can try to save them but it's unlikely that you will be able to or if you can, they won't be right and could possibly corrupt any save you reinstall them in.  The same goes for any households that were on the corrupted lot.

And while it might not mean much to you, I lost my long term 7-year-old main save to it last year.  Believe me, I tried everything I knew to save it but, in the end, there's nothing I did or could find to save if.  So, the only thing you can do is salvage what you can and start over in a new save.  One thing I find interesting though about the pics you posted is that I was able to track the problem back to when it started because I make a copy of all my saves before any updates or new pack installs.  Mine started about 4 months before I caught it in Magnolia Promenade, then moved to Forgotten Hollow and then to Oasis Springs.  It started in April, and I caught it in late July.  And your comment that it hit your game in the same order as it did mine makes me wonder now if it progresses the same way for everyone.  I know from the main thread though that it does hit other worlds so if might differ depending on what packs someone has.  I have all packs.

    Hope this helps.

Thank you so much for letting me know. I've been at my wit's end trying to figure this out. I have discovered that the lots are forever corrupt. I've tried to go back to previous saves, but it seems to manifest quickly after some play time, and always faster if I am playing on a Residential Rental lot. Looks like it's time to save my Sim families and start fresh. *Sigh*

@CGrant56 Right now my only world that is corrupted is Willow Creek. I have stopped playing all together so it has not spread beyond that. I would have started over but some say it still corrupts. I am not starting over completely like making all new sims. I am done.

    @EMMS2025

I'm sorry to hear that.  It's a great game.  I hope you'll reconsider and play again at some point.  I was pretty much devastated when my game corrupted last year.  Losing a save that I had played nearly every day since early 2017 really hurt.  But I love the game, so I salvaged what I could and started a new save.  After 10 months, I haven't seen any indications that the corruption issue is going to show up again.  I've been watching for it but other than the known bugs, most of which have reported here, there's been no sign of it and my save is fine.  So, don't let something like that cause you to abandon the game.

    Hope this helps.

  • No, it’s not a great game; it’s buggy beyond comprehension. Many of us in this thread stopped playing since for rent, because the constantly coming back corruption destroys the enjoyment.

CGrant56,  Honestly, i am really happy for you, that the bug did not came back in your save and i hope it stays this way. But that does not mean this is given for everyone.

I also had the bug, started a new save and it corrupted the new save again.

and I know more people where it came back instead of staying away. That's just sad.

Some others feel the same way, which is why we are looking for a solution and don't want to accept the situation.

This is simply not what i would call a great game if i always have to worry that my time, effort and love i put into my save could be destroid at any time.

So good for you that you have stilll fun with the game and are happy with the state its in but please dont expect this from everone here.

I also would love to come back to play the game and put as much love and effort in it like i did until last year, but its simply not possible in this state.
