[FR] Mould growing on lot without Dirty/Icky Plumbing

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? 1.103.250.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All except for Dream Home Decorator, Mochisno and all of the Kits
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Play a lot with the Mould Lot challenge
What happens when the bug occurs? Sims will start to get the "something smells" thought bubble and start waving their hands in front of their faces making grossed-out noises,a few hours later mould will spawn on the lot even though the plumbing is clean.
What do you expect to see? Dirty plumbing so I know I need to clean the pipes instead of mould just spaning randomly after nothing gets dirty.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. I downloaded the Game Pack For Rent.

Last night I was testing out the renting system as a tenant in one of the pre-build lots with an old family I snatched from my Gallery, everything was going well when I noticed mould was growing in the apartment, which was cool because I had chosen that lot challenge to fool around with. All is going well and my sims start to get "something stinks" thought bubbles and making gestures suggesting otherwise, not long after the mould spawns and I get a notification to clean it up and a gameplay "hint" that tells me to "clean dirty plumbing in a timely manner to keep on top of the mould". Ok cool, or so I thought, now I'm getting lots of mould, but none of the plumbing for appliances is dirty. There is nothing I can do to "keep on top of the mould", sims just start to get a "something smells" thoughts and then it spawns.

At first I thought it was similar to the tea set glitch, where sims would start getting "it stinks" moodlets after the kettle and rice cooker were used once, so I put them in my inventory and still had the same problem.

I don't know if this is a bug, since the gameplay hint doesn't match the cleanliness state of the plumbing/appliances in the sims apartment. So I am going to post this here in case it is a bug or an overturned feature.

  • @halloweenchild13 I think it just makes it more likely. When I was playing the Early access, I had mold a lot although it was all clean. Going to try and get some info from the CM but for now, I think it's best to be discussed in GD.

I move it back if it turns out to be a bug.

@crinrict HI Crin, thanks for the response! I wondered if the lot challenge would make mould spawning more likely as well since it doesn't make sense for the gameplay "hint" to tell me one thing, but then the feature happens anyway regardless of cleanliness. I'm hoping it's an overturned feature and not a bug.

    I almost hope it's a bug. Imagine taking good care of your house and still getting mould that's hard to get rid of. Good thing you reported it, I'd have no idea this was happening!! :}

My understanding is that with the mold challenge on, you will, eventually, get mold. The idea is that it’s a poorly ventilated / humid space - my first thought was basement apartments. It should still be perfectly manageable if you clean the mold whenever it appears and keep the place neat. But then if you have the mold challenge and you also allow the plumbing to get dirty or puddles to sit, that mold happens faster…

  • @halloweenchild13 Few more questions: Do you have any full trash cans or other dirty stuff ? Not just the plumbing ?

I'm going to move this backt o bugs for now cause I agree that the message is confusing.

Would you maybe mind sharing your save too ?

@crinrict No I'm pretty diligent about checking for dirty objects (since sims love to put used dishes and half-eaten food items on high shelves so far out of reach that they can't get them down again) and having the rubbish bins emptied I also mop up puddles when they appear as well. So I'd say I have a very tidy apartment, more tidy than my house irl if I dare say so. XD
I've also removed all the mods I've been using, so I'm certain it's not a weird mod conflict. I'm not sure how to share save files though.

I agree with you, this way is much more realistic, the mold in real life dont come just from the plumbing. And a really think mold appear just that way is unrealistic.

I've experienced this too and I have been playing mod (and cc) free since the Dec 5 update and installing the For Rent pack. In the livestream they said that to get mold you had to have the mold lot challenge on and had to have dirty plumbing for the mold to spawn so I too wasn't expecting mold to generate when there was no dirty plumbing.

Here's where they said that in the livestream. https://www.youtube.com/live/Vln3_Q2pLgU?si=tog68DI6qrMPmXMb&t=4435

    Best regards,
    Jennifer

  • Seems like the unit challenge in the active unit also applies to shared spaces when you play them. Could there be dirty stuff or food in the shared areas that contribute to this?
