Edge Smoothing doesn't work

My graphics are set to ultra, but I've been having problems with edge smoothing for at least several months. Objects like fridges, and stoves have weird lines on them where the shadows should be. I have edge smoothing on high and I don't think it should look like that. I've tested with turning edge smoothing off, and the lines get a lot worse so it mostly works, just not everywhere. You can see in this picture the lines behind the fridge.

They go away if I zoom in really close, but otherwise they are always there.

I'm not sure if this is the same issue but I also have problems with objects having jagged lines like inside this window.

I've tried going into NVIDIA control panel and changing both anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering to be application controlled and it didn't make any difference. I recorded a video of what happens when I move my camera. Look at the top of the fridge and microwave. https://youtu.be/e4HJkMmSzS4

I'm sorry that the video is still kind of blurry so it's probably hard to see what the issue is. I'm not sure why it's like that.

Here's a dxdiag if that helps: https://pastebin.com/9wm1DbCf

  • Hi @Evie0602,

What you're seeing is fine and edge smoothing is working as intended.

-Behing the fridge what you see is a shadow created by ambient oclussion, that shadows are not 100% accurate/perfect sometimes, specially if the object is in front of a wall like a fridge.

-Inside the windows, you don't see an actual 3D mesh but an image and an alpha channel that lets you see those "woods" dividing the glass. Antialising does not work on rasterized images, just on 3D meshes, hence that's why edge smoothing does not work on that part on certain windows.

  • I've doubled checked that the game is using the right card, and I've updated my graphics driver. Neither of those things made any difference.
