Sim LOD causing constant stuttering with recent update

Not looking for a remedy. This is a current problem that needs to be fixed.

This stuttering is also noticeable when a new action ques. Every time a new action ques it will stutter as well... opening the menu and settings etc will cause a stutter as well. This is unfixable as far as I'm aware unless fixed by the Sims team.

If anyone has been dealing with poor performance or really bad insufferable stuttering with this recent update I have the temporary solution until the Sims team fixes it.

Ever since Lovestruck came out, and I have been playing it... my game just stutters really badly... not the massive lag that fixes itself when you open the menu. I'm talking about the kind of stuttering that makes the game feel super jittery and freezes for a split second.

Go to the location of your Sims installation and find GraphicsRules and open it as a notepad

My Sims 4 installation is at "C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 4\Game\Bin"

Use CTRL+F and search in "SimQuality"

As you scroll down you will find Low, Medium, High and Very High

Find the setting you currently use, for me I use Very High sim textures so the settings for you to change might be slightly different.

These are the two settings we want to look for and change the value to:

RenderSimLODDistances

RenderSimTextureSizes

For Very High setting RenderSimLODDistances highest value should be 1000. Take that value and replace the other values under RenderSimLODDistances. So it should look like

 "1000, 1000, 1000, 1000"

For Very High setting RenderSimTextureSizes highest value should be 2048. Take that value and replace the other values under RenderSimTextureSizes. So it should look like

"2048, 2048, 2048, 2048"

For other qualities you generally just want to take the highest value with that setting and replace the others like the example above.

Now go to file in the upper left in the notepad you opened GraphicsRules with and press save (I do this a couple times just to double make sure I saved the settings.)

Open your game and test. Suddenly the game isn't a stuttering mess?!

I'm not sure when the Sims team messed up the Sims LOD/Texture, but at some point it got seriously messed up and causes unnecessary stuttering that makes the game nearly unplayable. Yes it was tested with a full uninstall, clean document folder, and everything else. It is not a CC/Mod problem. It's a game problem.

Yes, you can do that. However I choose to do it directly to the GraphicsRules file as I don't want a possibility of it being overridden. Only time that it will replace or change is when you repair the game.

  • do you know of any video tutorial showing how to do this? I have a very smooth brain so need visuals lol 🥳
