Re: Screen goes black and Windows locks up

@FlamingoKicker  The driver for your graphics card is quite old, and that might be the issue here, but unfortunately there's only one slightly newer driver available, a beta version from 2016.  So it's better to start elsewhere.

Please run a couple of basic checks of your Windows system files:

  • Hit Windows key-X
  • Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
  • Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes into the window, and enter
  • The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
  • After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
  • Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator)”
  • Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes into the window, and enter
  • Post the message you receive here
  • Restart your computer before trying to play

Disable Game Mod and Game Bar; the settings for each are under Windows Settings > Gaming.

Move your entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents\Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  Don't add anything to it yet; just see how a new save runs.

If you still get a black screen, please try playing in a clean boot:
