Who recalls 'Revive Launcher'?

There was some software out there called Revive Launcher on a site called 'battlelog' (which is still up) where you could download a special launcher for Battlefield 2. Seems they have pulled it down.

I think there was a patch also when enabled to change the GameSpy server over to their Revive application so people could continue playing the game online.

I understand EA send a "cease and desist" letter to them based on copyright grounds.

Why did they not fight that since EA no longer sells, or makes the game available?

Under the DCMA there are copyright exemptions for Video games for which outside server support has been discontinued, to allow individual play by gamers and preservation of games by libraries, archives, and museums.

Bring it all back!

  • The BattleLog system itself still works if you are able to find a copy of the game on the 2nd hand market.

The reason Revive was wound up was due to them distributing EA / DICE intellectual property without permission.

The letter was purely aimed at the distribution of IP and not the launcher / server itself.
