Re: BF3 black screen after loading "no signal"

Hello @DreamLord41

Are you using Nvidia card? If yes, can you check Nvidia control panel for Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration setting and make sure it is set to Single Display Performance Mode and not Multiple Display Performance Mode. Let me know if this was the case.

Cheers,

Archi

Ok @DreamLord41 thank you for clarification.

So, does this black screen crashes your game? Can you hear the sound? Can you exit the game? Your GPU drivers are up to date?

    Cheers,

    Archi

It goes straight to black screen upon loading. I can hear sound as the message appears onscreen "no signal", same as when the hdmi cable is pulled from either the card or the tv.

There are only 2 drivers for the HD 6870. One is whql while the other is beta. Same issue with either driver.

Is there a way to force windowed mode as the game freezes before I can try ingame.

    Hello @DreamLord41

Can you try to turn off Origin in-game option for Battlefield 3? You should also disable this option in general Origin client settings. Let me know how it goes.

    Cheers,

    Archi

There may be something to that. I disabled it in origin itself but couldn't find it in game. But started a game anyways and it went to the no signal thing with sound. I unplugged the hdmi & plugged it back in & the game worked fine til it crashed with the event viewer entry of "bf3.exe stopped interacting with windows & was closed".

For that part, I think I just need to fiddle with the graphics.

Ok, that may have resolved that. But now I have a weird issue. I can play for a bit then the video stops but sound continues on as if nothing was wrong.

    Any ideas?

    Hello @DreamLord41

Are you experiencing the same issue in both single and multiplayer game modes? It seems like a GPU related issue, maybe an older version of the GPU drivers can solve this?

    Keep me posted on this.

    Cheers,

    Archi

Have not tried MP as I don't play MP.

Another issue that pops up, is that I'll be playing and then the screen changes to that "no signal" message as if I unplugged the video card.

Crysis now works fine. So don't think it's a gpu issue.

Ok, game is still crashing. No ideas as to why either.

The video portion is crashing yet I can still interact with the game as I can hear my tank move, the machinegun fire etc.

I made it up to Thunder Run, the part with the tanks. Game crashes within seconds of loading now. Doesn't matter if card is set to defaults, overclocked or underclocked.

One crash somehow caused 2 different dx errors at the exact same time. Never seen that happen.

    Hello @DreamLord41

Can you try to load your game with the Clean Boot and run the game? Maybe some third-party software causes your game to crash.

    Cheers,

    Archi

Tried the clean boot. I also disabled everything with my Bitdefender security suite. Load the game and after a bit, it goes to the "no signal" message & I have to force a restart.

It's not a temp issue as the card doesn't pass 70 cel.

Can't be an issue with the card as I am also playing Crysis 3 at the moment & with it, only get the very random dxgi error device removed which seems to happen when graphics are set to medium.

Tried bf3 again with all settings to low or off, vsync on, stereoscopic 3d off etc, Plays for a few minutes then black screens to force a reboot.

How do I delete the game settings without deleting the game saves?

Is there a preferences file or the like that stores controls, graphic settings etc I can delete?

*Edit* I deleted the settings, reloaded the game & it crashes instantly upon campaign start. I can get into the settings. But it crashes when I click resume.

Currently, the game is crashing due to the display driver crashing & recovering.

This same driver does not crash when playing Crysis 3 though. So what is different with BF3 that is causes the crash?

    Hello @DreamLord41

PC troubleshooting can be tricky sometime. What version of Windows you are currently using? Can you also give us an error messages, you are getting, in case game does not crushes with black screen? So the lower graphic setting did not resolved this, have you also changed your in-game resolution?

There are no error messages. It just pops up the screen that says "no signal, make sure proper input is selected" etc.

    This is on windows 10.

I don't get this issue with Crysis 3 or World of Warships.

    @DreamLord41

This issue seems to be caused by your GPU downcloking. This is an AMD specific problem with some games under Windows 10.  I would advice you to dig deeper on this issue on AMD official forum https://community.amd.com/. Let me know, should you discover the solution there 😉

@EA_Archi I got my hands on a better video card in a Club 3D Royal King Radeon HD 7950 3GB. Loaded up the game on ultra settings & played a bit. Then I got a dx error.

Yes, I ran the Display Driver Uninstaller aka DDU while in same mode.
