Well, 24 hours later and a complete uninstall and reinstall of not only the game but also all the DLC up till now... and the game icon now works.

Icon is no longer greyed out.  Still stumped as to why the patch screwed it up.

I appreciate the advice on a CHKDSK but I am convinced it was an issue totally related to the patch.

For the record, I have rarely had any issues with this game or really any other game I play on my PC.  I was one of the lucky ones that did not experience much of anything regarding the game breaking stuff that litters the forums.  The only issues I have had were related to micro stutter with my 690 GTX running SLI and a hyperthreading stutter with my core i7.  I turned off SLI and disabled hyperthreading for several months as the drivers caught up to the game and now even those features are operating fine.

So, in closing, I guess the reinstall works.  Irritating to say the least... but it did work.

    Nice fixed is good. I have a GTX690 as well fully LOVE this card it rules lol :] Edit... Ps mark your last post as the Accept As Solution so others know what to do.
