Re: Constant low fps GTX 780 Ti

Yes it could be a program so try the clean boot as well.Ok so for PB do this for both BF3 and BF4..

Go to Punk Buster site
Download PB then extract files to your desktop then open Punk Buster folder. Click on the PB setup and it will open.
Add your BF4 game to punk buster its at the top of Punk Buster.
Then update punk buster again at the top of Punk Buster.

Then do same steps for BF3

Just wanted to say that this is still happening. I've done everything you've told me to do and nothing has helped. Whenever it starts going to the low fps issue, simply restarting my computer is the only solution I have for now. It seems it doesn't pop back up until after about a day since the last restart. Really not sure what's going on.

I did have a problem where a windows service would use an unusual amount of processing power casuing the CPU usage to be pegged at a near constant 100%. This doesn't seem to be related to the low fps issue as far as I can tell since whenever that does happen the cpu usage is around 60% when I'm playing BF4.

  • I'm experiencing the very similar problem, and the CPU appears to be the bottleneck, while there is no obvious reason why it  should be (i7 4770K @ 4,6GHz for me). Reinstalled Win 8.1 64 last night and BF4 is currently loading, so I'll see if that does something since all the usual measures did not help at all. Thanks anyways Zorlacc for your help, but it seems there's something else causing the problem. What really bugs me is the fact, that I start out at the usual 140 - 150 fps and then it gradually slows down within 30 mins or so. Only solution: reboot the system. Something clutters up the system in the background...

    Sys-Specs:

    i7 4770K @ 4.6 GHz

2 x ASUS Geforce 780 GTX (SLi) with latest 344.75 Driver

    16GB Corsair DDR3 RAM @ 1833MHz

MoBo ASUS Maximus Hero VII (current drivers)

    Hello,

How much memory does battlefield use when it starts to lower its fps ?

Only reason I can think of that either hardware problem or you need to reinstall battlefield 4 and origin.

For you Propell3rhead look in your bios and see if hypertreding is on or off and set it the other to see if this helps at all.

  • Okay, to give you guys an update:

First of all: I have the frames back! Bad news is, I don't know why. The BF4 installation is absolutely default, no user.cfg, Origin in game is on.

Re-Installed Win8.1 64 clean. So far only the latest system drivers have been inserted, no additional third party software is installed (such as audio drivers for the headset, mouse driver, etc.), the nVidia driver is NOT updated and is of revision 340.52 as it came with my Windows installation. As already mentioned, BF4 got a clean install from scratch, ran it, fps is back to normal - for now that is...

    What's next?

Will now step by step install drivers and tweak Battlefield as it has been configured before, and will then closely monitor if the fps-decrease occurs again, this might take some time but I am afraid that's the only way to pinpoint the problem.

@Zorlacc: Hyperthreading ON or OFF does not affect my systems performance under BF4 nor BF3 (it never has, also on my former rig), but this might be a factor for others and is worth a try.

You said you're runing Win8.1, have you tried running BF4 in Win7 compatibility mode?  Some Win8 users have reported success with that course of action.

  • Thing is, it worked for months smoothly under 8.1, and the sudden performance loss happened 4-5 weeks ago. I am not sure if it was some Windows-/driver-update that caused something to mess up. Right now it works flawlessly again with a fresh install of Windows 8.1 64bit. By now I have also upgraded to the latest Nvidia driver and also the peripheral driver (Razer Synapse 2.0) is again installed with no sideeffects.

I run BF4 on win8.1 with no issues but I also run this when I think windows may have a issue or after a format after all updates and drivers are done , also I find win8.1 way more stable then win 7. But I remove all apps I will never use and use a local account and I stay away from windows store as well as set up my win8.1 to boot up like win 7 :womanlol: Save this below for down the road as it can save you a format.

    Test your windows for errors
This works in all windows O/S vista Win7, Win8 and Win8.1 windows system file checker :] Copy and past this to note pad and put it on your desktop. As open programs can give you errors when you run this.

...... sfc /scannow ..... ever hear of it if not your going to love this .... it will inspect all the important windows files as well as the windows DLL files. If windows system file checker finds any issues with the windows files and windows DLL files it will replace them. This little tool as well as the event viewer saved me and fully helped me fix my BF4 issues as well as saved my .... many a format since I found it. This is the best toy they ever put in windows :]

For win7 go to start left click in search type cmd and right click cmd pick run as admin

For win 8.1 right click start bottom left of screen and pick command prompt admin

1 - Open administrator command prompt and close web pages and programs like origin.

2 - Type or copy and paste in sfc /scannow and hit enter, This takes 5 min to 15 min SSD vs HD

3 - This can go one of a few ways ..... no errors ... it fixed some errors ..... could not fix all errors...... does not finish checking and errors out ....... and the last one could not fix errors at all :/

4 -After its done reboot and do it again even if you had no errors the first time or had errors, could not fix ... run sfc /scannow again and when its done a second time reboot. You need to do this a and get no errors 2 x in a row ...

5- So if you ran it 2x and no errors your safe you can stop now for now lol, If you had errors first time but not the second then run sfc /scannow again and when its done reboot. You need to get could not find any errors 2 x to be safe. If it still finds errors try and run it a few more times until it finds no errors 2x AND ALWAYS REBOOT BETWEEN RUNNING sfc /scannow

6 - If you get a message indicating that it can not be repaired and you ran sfc /scannow more then 3x in a row on win vista or 7 mm you need a format or try repair win 7 :/ But after format or repair and all updates are done run sfc /scannow to make sure your windows is stable same deal 2x error free reboot between them.

If your O/S is Win8 or Win 8,1 then you can run this next command / line in administrator command prompt. Sadly this does not work for win vista or 7 :/ It will restore the health of your PC and you dont lose anything and it will also fix errors in the registry :]

    dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth ------- ONLY works for windows 8 and 8.1

7 - When its done reboot

I'm having the exact same issues with fx 8350 oc to 4.3ghz, evga 780ti sc.
always running 20-70 FPS, huge spikes and completely unplayable, really disappointed. It's no different to when I had a amd r7 200 card in.
Im running windows 7, would upgrading to 8.1 make much difference?

Will try all the suggested when I get a chance.

I was expecting 100fps plus out of this rig but can't work out why its performing so low!
