I already have the October update. 1803 right? KB4023057 and also the cumulative 1803 KB4467702 see screenshot.
There is a pre release of 1809 though which is November, do I need that? So this is not related to my Windows update because I already have that update and its a fresh install done about 2 weeks back, and fresh install of BF 5 and also the latest Catalyst drivers. I did have at the time of the crash installed the Catalyst fixes for BF V version 18.11.2 but now have installed the very latest pre release ones to try that now see if that fixes it, 18.12.1 but reading the release notes it doesnt mention any BF V fixes for this release only assassins creed origins as fixes for that Catalyst release.

Why would it not be available on windows update? I would think it would be available when released.

where from? that link you provided was for a new Windows install. not an update.
Refer to the top link on that page - It will download the latest channel patch (1809) to your PC.
MS release to public via WUS when the patch/Update is finalised internally.
